Field Trip – Animal Farms and Petting Zoos Never Get Old

Thanks for Sharing!

Do you have a little toddler in your home who is just so enchanted with animals? Can we go to the animal farm? Can we go the zoo? And then a day after you’ve taken them: Can we go to the animal farm again tomorrow? Can we go the zoo again? It simply never gets old. . .

We took the kids on a small “field trip” to the petting zoo. We wanted to do something different such as visit a museum or so but we ended up having another engagement that mid-morning until noon. By the time we got done, we figured we’d do something simpler.

It’s a small farm/petting zoo that’s not too far away. Personally, I’ve never been there but my husband has during his school days. We have friends who go there all the time during the Fall and I’ve driven past it but have never went. In fact, I didn’t even know it opened during the Spring. I heard it’s popular during the Fall. We usually go the pumpkin patch closer to our home during the Fall. I know they are opened year round but each season is different and it looks like the animals are only brought back during the Fall. But this one we went to had the animals out minus the pumpkins and all the festivities they have during the Fall, of course.

Anyway, it was quiet and only had a couple families since it was a school day. We homeschool and wanted to take time off for a fun field trip day. The kids really enjoyed seeing and especially feeding the animals. There were animals like goats, sheep, ducks, horses, chickens, llamas, cows, pigs, rabbits, foxes, etc. Not much petting was done, t mostly feeding. Some were not for feeding of course but the goats, sheep, and llamas appeared to be hungrier than most!

The kids all got a cup of food to feed the animals. What’s interesting is that the animals all were so very

And then we went to parks on the farm so the kids could play. Hubby and I sat on the benches and talked some between helping a kid up on monkey bars and between rescuing kids from tiny bugs:)

It’s a beautiful layout with another park further down the field. We went to both and spent most of the park time hanging out in this one (it had benches for us parents to sit on).

What kid doesn’t like running down a big hill in a big opened field pasture? Up and down they went just enjoying the simple moments of being kids.

One more time for that smaller park at the front as we exited the farm. It was only around 3:oo pm or so and we really were not in a hurry to be anywhere else.

And just a couple more scenes to enjoy at the front – we noticed them going in but the excitement for all things animals were so much greater:) I thought this tree stump was made interesting to represent the farm and the area around.

And then we stopped to admire and talk about this one room school house. I really do find it interesting how that used to be where kids of various ages and grades level all went to one small room to be taught by the same teacher at the same time. It reminds me of movies such as Anne of Green Gables.

Then it was early enough to stop by Walmart on the way home and pick up ice-cream shakes on the way home. My husband even had time to mow the lawn before it got dark. And of course, while he was out there the kids played some more in the front and backyard.

Altogether, while the field trip was not as extravagant as we might have thought, the kids really had fun! It made us happy that to see them enjoying themselves. One even asked to go back the next day but of course, we couldn’t!
