It’s being a little while since I’ve made an apple crisp. I’d cut back on how much baking I did during the Fall because although I wanted to create all these fun stuff, the kids were too little to care to enjoy them:) Plus I wanted to find healthier ways to create recipes that we can enjoy.

But I’ve made this apple crisp a few times this Fall and it is healthy and so very delicious!! It does not require much ingredients and you probably already have them all in your pantry.

Healthy Homemade Pecan Apple Crisp

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups cooking apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1-1/2 cups Old Fashioned Rolled Oats
  • 1/2 cup flour (Iย preferย White Whole Wheat)
  • 1/2 cup pure Maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup pecans

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Lightly grease a baking pan, set aside.
  • Melt butter over low heat in a medium saucepan.
  • Mix together apples, 1/4 cup Maple syrup, 1 tsp cinnamon and lemon juice until combined.
  • Add to melted butter and stir. Cook about 2 minutes.
  • Remove from heat. Pour mixture in prepared pan.
  • Mix the oats, flour, 1/4 cup plus 2 TBSP maple syrup, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 cup of the pecans. Cut in remaining 1/4 butter until crumbly (soft but crumbly).
  • Spread evenly over apple mixture.
  • Sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup pecans and remaining 1/2 tsp cinnamon.
  • Bake 30-35 minutes. If you want lighter pecans, cover with foil the last 10 minutes or so during baking.
  • Serve warm.
  • Store remaining crisp in the refrigerator for a few days. Reheat when ready to use.

I love to add a some coconut whipped cream to top the apple crisp before eating. A drizzle of caramel sauce over will definitely highlight the taste even more but since not too much if you want to keep it super healthy!!
