Home and Family Chats

What are Home and Family Chats?

Coffee with us is going to be casual chats about our week from the standpoint of family, faith, mothering, homemaking and personal self-development. It’ll be a general chat mainly about our week, something that worked or didn’t, what encouraged us, what motivated us, things we are loving, a trip we took, a fun find, something new we are trying, etc. and in general, what helps us along the way. There will be no particular order and not all topics will be covered all at the same time. We’ll simply chat about what we find necessary at the moment. But that’s the basics of what will be covered. It’s flexible – we can always add more topics or take away ones that don’t seem fitting.

When will these posts be?

I’m hoping that it would be a weekend post such as on a Friday or maybe a Saturday (?). I haven’t posted any much on Saturdays (it’s our home and family day) and Sundays are usually a non blogging day (Church, downtime). I posted this first installation one on Saturday but meant to get it out Friday, didn’t happen. I’d fallen asleep and was up early before everyone else so had time to finish it.

Although, I’m not sure I could commit to a weekly post but the idea of it sounds great. We’ll just do our best to post as we can. There is order in consistency but there is also disorder in driving ourselves crazy. So we’ll give ourselves grace with this one. If I can type one a week, then OK. But if I can only do two a month, then that’s OK, too. These days I’m struggling. I’m really struggling – with blogging and with getting posts out consistently. And you know what, if I can only do these types of relaxing posts for now, then that would be OK too. We’ll start slow and see how it goes.

As far as the name, I was going to call it “Coffee with Us” but decided it’s too generic. For now, I’m calling it Home and Family Chats. Chats with us?? Hmmmm.. Not sure what to call it but it definitely will be centered around home and family.

Why these chats?

I find that amidst the hustle and the bustle, one needs to slow down, reflect, and enjoy the things that helps him/her the most. Many times, those things are not centered around a home’s project nor a large purchase, but it’s the little things and the intangible things. Things you cannot touch or feel such as a Scripture verse, a song, a word of encouragement from another, a loving act performed by a stranger on the way.

Maybe as a mom, you found a friend or group of friends that you can do things with, to share ideas back and forth, to listen to your talks about motherhood, or just to go out and do your nails together. Those things are not what you can touch but they are what speaks to our hearts the most and help bring some motivation to our lives.

From a personal standpoint, maybe you’ve enrolled in a gym or exercising class, a painter’s class, music, or some other class. Or maybe you have started to read more good books. Maybe your family took a trip or a getaway just to relax and unwind. Those are not tangible but they are what helps us develop personally.

The tangible

Nonetheless, we’ll also cover a bit of the tangible as there is the tangible aspect of a home and homemaking. Maybe you found a few pieces of clothing that makes you feel good, or a new face care routine? Did you buy a new washer and dryer because they were long overdue. What will you have done without them? Hit the laundromat? You know the laundry struggle is a real thing but we need clean clothes. Maybe you have created a new little spot in your home for more functionality. All those tangible things are worth celebrating. They help us thrive as we create our homes with our families.

Fun Fact: In earlier blogging days, I used to do a Weekend in Review post. It was mainly about where we went and what we did. It was a sort of relating post for me. Others loved to read them, it seems.

Side note: There are many bloggers who take a slower approach to blogging sometime on the weekend (whether it be Friday, Saturday, or Sunday). They simply share a post about fun finds for the week, homes they are admiring, books they are loving, or something of that nature. I don’t know of their intent with these types of posts but they definitely have a “slow-down, let’s enjoy something” feel to them. I think that is great!

My hope for these chats

My hope is that as you read these posts here you’d find some encouragement for your self and for your family, whether it be physical or in faith. Also, that you’d find a place to share your thoughts and connect with others. God has given us so much including the opportunity to make homes. We need to slow down and appreciate all that’s given to us and all that help us along the way. Community is a beautiful thing when we share and encourage in beautiful ways.

How does that sound? I’m liking the idea already! Let’s share and be a blessing to each other in some small way!!

She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness (Proverbs 31:27).
