Now that Fall is officially here and the weather is getting cooler, younger children who do not attend school will probably spend more time inside rather than outside. With this in mind, we like to prepare a list of supplies for crafts and activities that they can do indoors. These activities are not the everyday obvious activities like playing with toys, jumping, or playing with a ball. Rather, it is the guided activities that require more concentration such as playing with play dough, making baking soda and vinegar eruption, or making a beaded necklace. Young children’s attention span is very short and they tend to get bored quickly. Having a list of supplies on hand for such activities is a great way to cut some of that indoor boredom. I created an alphabetized list that you can down load for free.
This supply list is also great to have year-round. Because while we love to be outside during the warmer months, there are times when we are forced to stay inside, for whatever reason. Overall, it is just a good idea to help our kids learn and develop mentally and physically by doing various activities with them.
We have also alphabetized it and included a grocery supply section for making activities such as pasta necklaces, goop, play-dough and other fun activities for kids. Here is a look at our popular fall scented play-dough we did last year using ingredients like flour, salt, oil, and flavored gelatin.
While the list may seem a bit long, remember that most kids activities does not have to be complicated. If you are going to craft, basically all you need to throw a craft together with kids is construction paper, scissors, and glue. The possibilities are endless with these three items. But we like to go further and make all kinds of stuff.
If you have young children and need some ideas of what to buy or collect for crafting and special indoor activities with small children, feel free to download your free copy of our Kids Crafts and Activities Sample Supply List. Then do a Google search based on the supplies and you will find tons of ways to use them. Here is a former post I have written on 30 plus super easy budget-friendly activities for toddlers using many of the supplies on the list. Hope you have fun crafting with your kiddos during the colder months!
How do you keep your young kids busy during the cooler months? I would love to know in the comments below!
I will definitely be trying the fall-scented playdough with my nieces and nephews!
I hope they like them. My kids did so I am gonna make them again!
Oh I love this fall play dough idea! Such a great post!
Thank you Chrissa. The play dough colors are beautiful and they smell great!
I always have those things on hand and my kids are older…lol. My kids like to cook, so they do a lot of baking and experimenting in the kitchen.
Sounds like fun. I used to have my daughter help with lighter ingredients when she was two and three. But now with three kids and a smaller kitchen, yep not happening as much! LOL
You are so organized! I want to come over to your house and play. The fall scented play dough looks like so much fun. Your kids are so blessed to have a mom like you!
I like to have things handy to do with them but I feel like I fail them everyday and could never get it right. Thanks for the compliment!
Play dough is always fun! How great to have fall scented dough to be creative with. 🙂

They were easy to make and they smelled awesome!
Definitely a good idea to have crafts your kiddos can do inside… there’s only so many times they can color before they get bored. 🙂 Play dough is a great idea! And thanks for the supply list, I love it when other people are organized for me! 🙂
LOL..glad the list will be a help to you. Coloring really gets boring after a while for the little ones!
I love play dough recipes! I have one scheduled for next Monday. I’ll add yours to my collection. Thank you for sharing!
Hope you like them as much as we do!
