Weekend Review: A Trip to Royal Oak Farm & a Recipe for Homemade Apple Pie

Thanks for Sharing!

Last Friday, hubby took the day off work so we could go the farm to pick apples as a family. He had traveled to various states over the past two weeks and wanted to take some time to be with us. Even today, he already went to Wisconsin. Just an overnight trip this time. But going to the farm is kind of an annual thing that we started even before we had kids. We just love when all the yummy Fall fruits are in full bloom and we can go pick them fresh from the trees. The cost may not be as efficient as we would like and the farms are not even close by (at least an hour’s drive). And we chose farms according to what they have ready. But we love the experience! Here are previous posts about our trips. Last year we visited two different farms:ย Knuton’s Country Harvestย in July & Royal Oak Farm in October.

Below are photos of our trip and then a delicious apple pie recipe we made with some fresh cooking apples. Our little 3 year old wanted me to make apple pie from the moment I told her we were going to the farm. She loves cooked apples with all the spices and a little sweet – but she does not eat the crust.

I really love how this farm is Christ-centered. Many verses could be seen throughout different areas of the farm. Over the fire place on the left side in the photo below, is a that plaque quotes Romans 11:33-36. And of course, we sat sat around the fireplace and warmed ourselves because it was a bit chilly outside. Then we had some hot cider when we were leaving!

And those apples made us some delicious apple pies!

What have you done this ย past weekend? Do you ever go visit the farms if you live far away from them? Would love to know!

  1. I just love apple pie. And the crusT is my favorite part! When the kids were growing up, we would take them to a Christian owned apple orchard every fall. They served the best apple doughnuts and apple cider while the owner told the story of Johnny Appleseed and compared it to God giving his only son. Then he would invite the kids to give their hearts to Jesus. Awesome!

  2. It sounds like a lot of fun! We don’t have apple farms here in middle Georgia but we do have Pumpkin patches and Pecan orchards!
That apple pie sounds delicious. I like a slice of apple pie with a piece of cheese melted on top and big glass of cold milk!!

  3. Oh, what fun! Your daughter looks like she had a great time. I have always wanted to go apple picking, and have yet to do so. There is a place to go out in Julian, California, but it is about a two hour drive, so it takes planning. Someday I will get there. ๐Ÿ™‚ PINNED your recipe!

  4. There is nothing my hubby loves better than apple pie, so I love to try new recipes to see if I can find one he really loves! I can’t wait to try this one! Thanks for sharing! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I cannot believe your 3 year old didn’t want to try the crust, that’s my favorite part! It’s so yummy once it’s soaked up the juices from the apples ๐Ÿ™‚
