Five Favorite Summer Home Tours – A Recap

Now that we have come to the end of our Summer Home Tour series, I thought it would be great to revisit the homes we have toured. I know you enjoyed the tours as much as I did so I wanted to see which ones you loved best. Each person has a different style and different taste for decorating so it’s totally OK if one resonates with you over another.

Favorite Summer Home Tours

Remember this lovely clean beach cottage from The House of Silver Lining? I know many of you loved it. Who wouldn’t love a beach home?

Coastal Home

Then we saw this awesome Farmhouse style home from Love Grows Wild. She really knows how to bring it “farm style.”

Celebrate-Summer-Home-Tour-10

And the beautiful Eclectic Vintage home by Eclectically Vintage. I love how Kelly gets real creative and mixes a bunch of stuff to create her home.

How about this oh so creative Modern Vintage Mix home by Craftivity Designs? Everything in this home gives me such a homey feeling. So beautiful!

IMG_4368_edited-1

Then finally, we stepped into this Colorful Modern home by Place of My Taste. I tell you, this girls knows how to mix colors and DIY some serious projects to decorate her home!

summer-home-tour-49

All of these homes are so lovely and they each bring something different to the table. Hopefully, these gave you some ideas of what is out there and how people’s homes vary. No one is ever the same even if styles may be similar. And if you needed some fresh ideas, I hope you got some. But remember, your home is what you make of it. So let the ideas be your inspiration and not a copy or else your home would not be a reflection of you. Speaking of homes, I mentioned a few weeks ago that I will be sharing an update on our move soon and how we are creating our home.

Of all five, which one was your favorite? I would love to know your thoughts in the comments and thanks for touring them all with me. As for me, I loved them all. That’s why I featured them in this fun series.

Favorite Summer Home Tour Series – Modernly Colorful!

Hi friends! So glad you decided to tour the final home in this fun summer series along with me. So far, we have seen a total of five beautiful homes, each one very unique in its own way. Today, we are stepping into the home of another special blogger with such a lovely home. Read on. . .

Favorite Summer Home Tours

Let me introduce you to the lovely home by Aniko from Place of My Taste. Have you being to her site before? She is such a cool girl with such a beautiful and humble heart. Her home projects and recipes are ones you won’t want to miss!! She is not afraid to mix styles and use a variety of colors in her home. And if you are in need of some photography lessons, ask her. She wrote a book about it, too. Think I need to get it:) Isn’t this such an amazing shot?!

summer-home-tour-49I first got to know about Aniko’s blog through a link party she used to host called Work It Wednesday. One first look at her site and I was hooked! Everything looked so bright, clean, and beautiful. You know those websites that look so polished with such awesome pictures that just keep you going back to them? That is exactly how I felt about her site. And her profile image is just way too cool). It’s all about first impressions here!! But after a little while, for some odd reason, my electronics did not want to pull up her site. It was loading real slow no matter how much I tried. We finally got things straightened out and I have no problems now.

Then one day, I was brave enough to leave a comment on one of her recipes. What do you know, she totally replied. Say whatttttt? I don’t know about you, but when a blogger I admire replies to one of my comments it makes me happy. I feel recognized and want to go back. And I did! I don’t always leave comments but each time I have left one, I got a reply. (If you get hundreds of comments and cannot reply to all of them that is understandable). And then when she left a comment on my site, you know I was ecstatic!

summer-home-tour-24

Funny story. One day, a few years ago, when my BHG magazine arrived in the mail, as I flipped through the pages I saw something that caught my eye. On the second look, I realized it was a project Aniko had done with her backyard. She was featured in the BHG summer edition. See it here. I started yelling with excitement to my husband, “It’s Aniko!” I yelled the same words about 5 times. He looked at me and calmly asked “Who is Aniko?”When I calmed down, I replied, “Oh, you don’t know her – she is a blogger that I have been following”. End of my story but I am sure you are getting my excitement. Those of us who blog know how much we put into it. And to see our hard work being recognized by well-known companies is such an accomplishment. Mine haven’t (of course) but I love to celebrate with those whose work are even if they don’t know I do.

This next image features her fabulous family room. If you missed the one room challenge we did back in April with Calling it home, this was Aniko’s project reveal.  She redid this room and added these awesome built ins. You’ll want to go see this rest of this room on her site.

Have you met Aniko before? Now that you have gotten a peek into her modernly colorful home, are you inspired to add some color to your home? If you have not been to her site, I encourage you to tour her summer home. You will love her style.

This completes my summer home tour series. I’ll be sharing a round up of all five homes tomorrow to see which one was your absolute favorite. Thank you for following along!

Favorite Summer Home Tour Series – Modern Vintage Mix

I am back with my Favorite Summer Home Tour series you all. It makes me so happy that you are loving the series. It is so much fun! And today, I have a good one. Well, they are all good but this one is special to me.  Read on. . .

Favorite Summer Home Tours

I’d like to introduce you to my friend Lora at Craftivity Designs. Lora and I are in a few of the same Facebook groups and you may have noticed us doing some blog hops together. She has such a beautiful heart and such love for her home. If you are looking for someone who creates her home with such thought and functionality, then you have come to the right home tour. Every time she posts about a room in her home, I always think of how meaningful her home is – it’s like it tells a beautiful story that I cannot explain.

Spring Tour Entryway Craftivity Designs09

Her mix of modern and vintage works together really well. She chooses “modern color palettes like lots of greys and whites as a backdrop” then adds in beautiful meaningful and vintage decor to pull her home together. There is such a sense of genuinity behind the decorating taste her decor style, that makes the home seem so homey. Just look at this first image of her entryway, stairway, and that part of the dinning room. Can you already feel the “meaningfulness” behind her home?

downstairs photos09_edited-1

Her Master bedroom is just gorgeous! Doesn’t it look so inviting?! I seriously can’t get over the blues, whites, and browns that make this space. It looks like a hotel suite but with a feel of home. Think of it as taking a rest in this lovely room after a long hard day’s work.

upstairs photos03

And if I have not convinced you enough that her home is just so inviting, then check out this sunroom! Yep, it is a sunroom indeed! One of the houses we recently considered moving into had a sun room. We did not move into it but if we did, I don’t think the sunroom would have looked this beautiful. So bright and cozy with such a gorgeous view. Seems like just the spot to relax in or to hang out with family and friends. Who needs family room when they’ve got this space? Not I!

IMG_4368_edited-1

I know you can’t wait to see more. If you’ve never toured Lora’s home before you should definitely stop by and check out this lovely home for yourself. You will truly appreciate her style of decorating and creating her home.

Favorite Summer Home Tour Series – Eclectic Style

Hi friends, lately, it seems I could never get a hold on much blogging. We’re trying to settle in and that’s priority right now. Hopefully, I’ll be able to find my blogging swag again and be back on track. I do have a few posts in the making, including my plate wall tutorial that you saw here plus an update on the move. Meanwhile, I am sharing another favorite summer home tour feature with you today.

Favorite Summer Home Tours

Kelly over at Eclectically Vintage has such an inspiring home. I love that she has a mix of decor she loves that are both vintage and eclectic. In many ways, I am kind of like her with the eclectic side of things because I simply cannot stick to one style. It’s true. Sometimes, I am not even sure what to call it! I used to think something was wrong with me but then I am beginning to accept my style. Whatever I love goes. This may not be the best home decor advice you have ever heard, but hey, who is to determine right? You make home yours:)

vintage-igloo-cooler-decor-plate-rack

I first met Kelly over on Facebook, last Fall, and we had a back and forth conversation about our Facebook pages. I was immediately drawn to all her beautiful home decor photos she posted on Facebook. Those Fall photos were just gorgeous. Since then, I have been following Kelly to see all that she has to offer.

You can already see her eclectic style of decor between these first two photos. The first one is definitely more vintage than the second. I love how she added some coastal in the mix in this image. After all, it’s summer.

And here is another shot of more vintage and coastal. This little crock is acting as a side table. How brilliant is that?! If you are on the eclectic side of decorating, you will want to check out Kelly’s blog for lots of inspiration. It is definitely a fun one!

How about you? Do you like the eclectic style of decorating? Have you toured Kelly’s Summer home before? Go check it out and let me know what you think!!

Summer Dinning Room & Indoor Summer Party

Hello friends! Hope your summer is going well and you are having all kinds of summer fun! I feel like the summer is flying by and we have not done as much yet as we would like to do. I guess when we throw moving in the mix it takes a little while to settle in and get back on track again. That does not mean that we are not having any kind of fun though, but we are just taking things slowly. There are days when we just have to set all unpacking aside and go have some fun whether it be at home or away from home. The fun is in the mix!

Anyway, a few weeks ago, I showed you how I added a summer sitting area to our backyard which we are truly enjoying. I am back to show you today how I am bringing summer indoors.

Summer Dinning Room Reveal - Table

I am so excited to be teaming up with At Home stores and a group of fabulous bloggers to show you how we bring summer indoors. At the bottom of this post you’ll find a list of the ladies participating. Be sure to check them out for more indoor summer inspiration. And we also have a lovely giveaway you won’t want to miss! Keep reading!

Bringing Summer Indoors with At Home Stores

This challenge was just the push I needed to get our dinning room summer ready. Honestly, I am not usually one to add too much bright colors for summer decorating. And yellow of all colors? But now that I have added color to the dinning room, I am totally loving it! It’s like a different feel every time I walk into it (like a breath of fresh air)!

Dinning room centerpiece

I have to add that up until two weeks ago, we had no separate dinning room. Before our last home, we have had separate dinning areas and I really did miss that feature.  There is just something special about a separate dinning room. It’s kind of nice to gather around the table for special dinners and holidays. But with the move came a dinning room which I was happy to have again. It was empty as we only had a little breakfast table that we brought along with us and using in the kitchen area. That means, it was time for a new dinning set and spruce up the room!

Dinning room

The set is a replica of our dinning table set from a few years ago. We tend to move around plenty for various reasons. But when we sold our first tiny town home, my husband had a bright idea to sell the dinning set, too. He felt that the home we were moving into had more a rustic feel to it plus the breakfast nook was too small to fit the table. But I think we both missed the set more than we knew. It was our first new NON-Craigslist dinning set we had bought. So we always felt that we had not gotten enough use of our first one like this before we sold it.

Dinning room reveal table set

While we were out shopping at At Home stores, last month, for our backyard makeover, we spotted some dinning table sets. I had been to the store on countless occasions and never really paid attention to see if there was a dinning table and chair set isle. After all, we did not need one. But we saw a table that we really thought would fit the dinning room well. It was bit more on the rustic side and we loved it and figured we might as well go ahead and get it. But after checking the isle when we went back to the store another time, we settled on this one. My husband was really excited and while he loved the rustic one, I think this one made him happy. It goes well with the color scheme of the room. This was the color scheme of the room at that previous home, too. Isn’t that something?!

Summer Dinning Room Reveal - Plates

So now that we had the set, it was time to add some color. At Home stores have some really great quality items with varying color and style for every season. It’s always fun to shop there and to see what new products they have added. (Having my husband helping me while we shopped and decided on items is always great. Plus I never go to At Home by myself – big store with kids in tow).  But check out my lovely centerpiece. It makes such a statement in the room!

Dinning room centerpiece

For the table setting, I brought in some blues and yellows. After all, it is summer! We invested in a set of white dishes a few years ago and I basically used them for every season with a few decorated Christmas ones. Since it is summer, I decided to add some blues to the mix.
dinning room reveal with centerpiece

I chose a mix of two different designs of plates for added interest. Or maybe it was because I loved both and could not decide on which design to choose:)

I found the set of white linen napkins on sale, too. A simple petal from outside completes my plate setting look. The table setting is very simple. Further down, you’ll understand why there are no utensils. And my lovely glass jar on the plant stand along with the faux flower is also from At Home. I found two of them on clearance.

What’s the point of having a pretty set table with no food? I pulled together some finger foods and threw a quick party for the family to enjoy (hence the lack of utensils). The kids couldn’t be more excited to have a party in the new space. My E.a.t. sign was something I already had on hand and the food is placed on my new to me Craigslist console table find which I just love so much. It is a newly refinished piece for a very reasonable cost.

Summer dinning room and party food table

I was about to make everything from scratch as that is how I tend to think but then my husband advised me to get them already made rather than going throw the hassle.

I did end purchasing some frozen foods that I added my own twist to – but it was less work than if I had to make everything from scratch.

summer indoor part food - cream cheese croissant roll-ups

It’s being a while since I have made one of those fruited pizza cookies (like years)!

Indoor summer party - cookie pizza

I snagged the trifle bowl for half off and could not be happier. I always wanted one but did not want to pay more than $10 for one. I know, I am cheap. The drinking bottles and decorative drinking bottles were for a very low cost (talking $5 or less). I really love this chicken wire ice bucket that I also found while I was out shopping.

And of course, I had to save the best for last because I cannot leave the rest of the wall totally bare! Let me introduce you to my awesome plate wall! Ha ha! I always love seeing plate walls so I decided to do something different and create one.

Dinning room wall with white plates

I used a collection of simply two design white porcelain plates from At Home along with a few others to create the look. There was no thought process behind it at all. Just some random hanging white plates. I may shift them a little to create more of an uneven look.

Dinning room reveal - plate wall

The area under the plates looks a bit empty and don’t mind my too short window curtains. I might have underestimated the height of the windows. My few windows in my previous home were not this high and my curtains are not new. I am in the process of getting new curtains for the windows in this place and wanted a temporary solution. But as for now, I am looking past these few imperfections and totally loving the space.

Dinning room reveal

It may not be the best arranged plate wall you ever did see but I sure love it!

Summer dinning room plate wall and lights

Dinning room reveal - mirror and light

This mirror is also another At Home find for just a little under $25. The frame has a nice two – toned color.

Summer dinning room reveal

All in all, we are loving this summery space and really enjoyed having our first indoor summer party here earlier this week. It is so refreshing. Minus the table set which was discounted at very reasonable price, all my decor and serving items were just a little over a hundred. Definitely a good way to shop!!

Favorite Summer Home Tour Series – FarmHouse Style

Last week, I kicked off a new summer series featuring some of my favorite homes in the blogosphere. I shared the simply beautiful beach cottage by The House of Silver Lining which you all seemed to love as mush as I do! Thank you all for the sweet comments and for loving the series already. Don’t forget that while I am bringing you inspiration and fresh ideas, you have to find your style and create the home that will make you and your family happy:)

Favorite Summer Home Tours

I am back with another home that I know you all would love just as the first. Let me introduce you to the lovely farmhouse by Liz from Love Grows Wild!! So much farmhouse goodness in her home – almost too much to handle! I really did not know which image to choose from her home. This image alone will have you swooning! All the browns, the neutral, the greenery, the whites, and let’s not forget the rustic!! And this is the office – can you believe it?!

Celebrate-Summer-Home-Tour-7

This is not any farmhouse with stuff thrown together (no offense). But this home is well decorated and well put together with a lot of DIY’s and makeovers, too. The neutral, the browns, the greenery. . . .  some of my favorites! I mean, everything looks so simply beautiful and uncluttered. I kid you not!

I have been following Liz on Instagram for quite some time and love every one of her photos. One of the best things I found out on her site is that she is originally from Chicago. A kindred spirit I tell you:) But she moved to Indiana where she is making her lovely home. And she is writing a book about all that goodness too guys.

Celebrate-Summer-Home-Tour-10

Here is a peek into her bedroom. Sigh! In a good way. Pure farmhouse goodness in every corner of her home. This is not just a touch of farm, this is fully farm! I have a thing for good farmhouse decor when I see it. My mom had lots of farmhouse items while I was growing up. And she still does. So all things farmhouse reminds me of my childhood days.

Celebrate-Summer-Home-Tour-27

So now that I have got you swooning, guessing you’ll want to see the full reveal of her summer home right? Why not head on over there and check out the tour? I know you will love everything about her beautiful space. You’ve got to check out her patio in this post!! She also did another recent summer tour that is just as gorgeous! Love some good farmhouse decor? You will love Liz’s home for sure!!

So how much do you love this farmhouse style home? Have you ever been to her site before? I would love to know your thoughts in the comments!!

Disclosure: I have gotten permission from Liz to use some of her images for this post. All images (except the first) belong to Love Grows Wild. I chose to leave full photos “be” so you can go tour her home on her site!

Favorite Summer Home Tours Series – Beach Cottage Home

Hi everyone, hope you had a lovely holiday weekend! Today I am kicking of a new summer series featuring some of my favorite summer home tours. Throughout the month of July, I will be introducing you to ONE  new home each week. Each home will have a different decor style. We all know that no two homes are ever the same! Ever. Even if styles may be similar, everyone will still bring something different to the table by putting their own spin on home.

Favorite Summer Home Tours

This feature of favorite summer homes is by no means a way to cause you to become discontent with your own home. It’s not to encourage you to throw away everything you own and start afresh. View it as a means of inspiration. It is not wrong to gather information and learn from others. And sometimes we as homemakers may desire to create a certain space but feel stumped for ideas. Hopefully, the tour of homes will give us some new ideas of various types of home decor styles that are out there. Ultimately though, we each need to find our own style and do what makes us and our family happy. So now that we’ve got this out of the way, let’s get on with the first style of home . . . .

Since summer tends to equal beach (well for those who have access to beaches) we’ll start off with the Beach Cottage home of Shauna from The House of Silver Lining. Have you seen her coastal home before? I have been following Shauna since she started blogging and really enjoy seeing her home tours throughout the seasons.

Coastal Home

I only added three images because I want you to tour the home from her site but you can already see how everything  looks so fresh, clean, airy, simple but oh so very lovely!

Now that you have seen a peek into her home, hopefully you will stop by and check out the full tour over on her blog at the House of Silver Lining

Disclosure: I have gotten permission from Shauna to use some of her images for this post. All images (except the first) belong to The House of Silver Lining

What do you think? Do you love coastal decor? Have you toured Shauna’s beach cottage style home before? I will love to know your thoughts in the comments.

Creating a Summer Backyard Sitting Area

Having a sitting area in the backyard is so worth it in during the summer times. It is great for hanging out with family on those long summer days and nights and also for entertaining friends!
backyard ideas

I partnered with At Home stores to help create our sitting area. I am one of their new At Home Inspiration Team members and will be writing a monthly decor post on their behalf. Honestly, At Home stores is one of my favorite stores to shop for home decor products. It’s has become my one-stop shopping spot since I was made aware of it in my area about 2 years ago. They have re-branded from Garden Ridge and has products for every style imaginable with up to 400 new decor products added each week. Seriously, there is something for everyone! What’s better is that the quality is great and the prices are unbeatable. You’ll see what I mean as I show you the products.

But we’ve been meaning to create a fun outdoor space for the longest while. Some of my husbands co-workers have been wanting to get together and hang out at our place. We kept saying that we’ll do something to the backyard during the summer and invite them over. Maybe add a large table with an umbrella and have a cookout! But it seems like something always got in the way. Last year, I had a little baby around 6 months old plus our two other little ones. Along with my husband’s busy business trip travels, it just was not happening.

backyard with umbrella

This is the backyard I planned to work with when I was first contemplating on adding some outdoor living. It extends all the way up on a sledding type of slope. One of my plans along with my husband was to add some beautiful rocks along the way and lovely in-ground summer flowers.

Backyard Newberry

backyard in other home

But then our home ended up not staying long on the market so that threw off this plan. During our house search, one of our desires was to at least find a fenced backyard. And somewhere in the back of mind, I was hoping it would be concreted out like the former. But we were finding that the homes with fenced backyard were not meeting our expectations. At least the ones we saw. The new backyard is bigger but it is not fenced in and there is no concreted area. But it is does not back up to the street and it is a lovely big area where the kids can play and our family could hang out.

backyard BH

I love the bright and fun colors added to the patio. In fact, while I was setting up one of the new neighbors said to me, “nice decoration”. This was was my first time meeting her as we just moved in but it was one of the first things she said to me. That made me feel great!! Looks like I am already winning hearts. But you don’t want your place to look the worse in the midst of beauty. I am sure some of them were wondering why I was taking so many photos of the space.

summer backyard sitting

Would you like to know how I created this simple yet so beautiful outdoor space using products from At Home stores? I will explain everything below. And be ready for loads of pictures. I said I was only going to put up 5 images but I ended up with a bunch!!

Step 1: I first chose those wicker chairs from At Home then created the area around it. There were so many choices of outdoor furniture but I knew I wanted something like this from the start. I originally thought of the color brown, but then these were at a nice 50% off so I could not pass them up. The smaller chairs were less than $40 a piece. Can you believe that? I don’t think I have seen these quality chairs at such a low price in all my search for patio furniture.

wicker chair - long

Step 2: I laid an 8 x 10 indoor/outdoor rug on the grass that I found at At Home. The ground area is not leveled out but I still liked having it sectioned out with the rug. It was easier for me to place the decorations plus it’s easier under foot. Having the lawn freshly mowed was a bonus, too.

Note: Putting a run over the grass can cause the grass under to dry out. Be sure you are OK with that before laying the rug.

Outdoor rug

Step 3: After I set the rug where I wanted it, I went ahead and positioned the chairs around it. These chairs are definitely weather friendly and will hold up to whatever Chicago throws at them. You just never know!

patio chairs

Step 4: I added some accessories such as outdoor chair cushions for extra padding. These are so comfortable. While I was setting this up, it was difficult to get a certain 18 month old off the cushions.

outdoor cushion

Aren’t these outdoor throw pillows fun?! I have to tell you, I stepped out of my comfort zone and went a bit bold with these fun color pillows. The outdoor pillow selection from At Home is huge but these were the first ones that caught my eye as I walked in.

throw pillows

But it seems like everyone elase loved them as much as I did because there were only two of these. I scored the isles for almost an hour (it seems) trying to find a few more. And even asked one of the workers if there were more. I did however manage to find a close match. These pillows remind me of the bold tropics. Shall I say that we connect?!

backyard pillows

I also picked up some lanterns and some faux battery-operated illuminated candles during my shopping trip.

lantern and table

And of course, I brought the space together by adding some real pants because a summer outdoor space has got to have some pretty flowers!

ascessories

Those tall planters were also some of my At Home finds! Again, the planter section is enormous! I scored these for half off $10.
backyard plants

I wanted them tall so they could take the place of end tables since I was not feeling too many tables. I only wanted a small table in the middle.

planter

wicker chair

Check out how the space already came together very nicely once I added the accessories. I am really loving all those fun summer colors!

outdoor

I also added some more plants on the steps for color and beauty. And of course, our little guy kept pulling out all the petals.

outdoor plants

I  decided to add another fun throw pillow with a totally different pattern in the middle of this larger wicker chair. I did not want a plain blue since the cushions were already blue – too many blues. I love how the brown works along with the plain brown rug.

backyard long chair

toss pillows

Once I was down setting up, I felt like the space needed something else to pull it together just a tad bit more. My husband asked if I wanted to put an umbrella (which I originally wanted to add while we were back at the other house). At that point, I had already changed my mind on the whole umbrella idea. I thought of adding a pole line with some mason jar lanterns behind the chairs. Then I thought of adding a flower stand (a ladder of some sort). Then I thought of adding a narrow table for holding food and drinks. So many possibilities. . . . So off to At Home I went again and scored the outdoor section for ideas. With just a little over a half hour to find something (because I had already spent almost 3 hours there the previous day shopping), I decided to go with an umbrella. This crank tilt umbrella were at a pretty $24.99 down from $39.99. You’ve got to love the red line clearance from At Home!

backyard oasis

The umbrella really made the space feel complete. But I think I may still add a table when it comes time for entertaining. Maybe now I can invite some of my husband’s co-workers over for a fun BBQ or something!
backyard - outdoor

And here is a look at another angle with the kids swing set and play area in view. (The set is a bonus addition that came with the house). I am getting a lot of background competition with the other homes around in the photo – and that fence is from another home.

play area

I also picked up the white basket during my shopping trip to hold some of the kids outdoor toys. We’ll get some more balls and sand buckets, etc. once we are done unpacking our stuff.

I love the outdoor at nights just as I love it during the day. Check out the look at nights. Grab a blanket and secure your spot on one these chairs.

Those lanterns with the faux candles are really adding some ambiance to the space. It really is lovely!

We may not have our boxes unpacked and our house may be in total disarray. But our backyard is definitely a lovely place that everyone could hang out. The kids are already loving playing out there and I love sitting and watching them have fun!

So what do you think? Is there an At Home store near you. They currently have more than 100 stores cross country with 20 more opening this year. Check the store locator to find out if there is one near you. You should totally go check them out! You will not be disappointed. The store is huge so before you visit, see my tips for simplifying your shopping with At Home and making your shopping experience better!!
