Favorite Fall Things for Moms

Find some of my favorite Fall items for warmth, coziness, and skin care below. This post contains affiliate links for your convenience.

It’s the Fall season and with the changing leaves and cooler air, I like to think of a verse that speaks about God’s creation (Psalm 19:1 that the Heavens declare God’s glory). The leaves and the landscape show us that beauty! I also thought of some of the things I like to use during the Fall. We all tend to have those favorite things we like to pull out during the Fall don’t we? It’s those staples that we tend to use yearly. Thought I’d share some of my very favorites with you, moms. Of course, there are so many other items that I use during the Fall for various purposes. However, these few picks are what I tend to use most for personal warmth, coziness and skin care. If you are mom or just a woman who hasn’t figured out your favorite Fall things yet, I hope this post will give you a little help.

  1. Blanket Scarf – Depending on where you are, the Fall weather can get pretty chilly. Sometimes, early snow hits. A blanket scarf can keep you warm.
  2. Knit Slouchy Beanie Hat – I must own about 10 of these hats (not really). But I do have a few different colors and have gotten some for each family member. They are cute and will keep your head warm.
  3. Tall Hunter Boots – We all love a good pair of boots for Fall right. I’ve always wanted to try a pair of Hunter boots.
  4. Long Sleeved Cardigan – A pair of Cardigan is a must-have moms – Throw it on over your outfits for the grocery, church, out with friends, or over your in the morning while having some coffee:) Just saying.
  5. Morning Pumpkin Mug – Well, this one is a given. You just need a mug for hot drinks ALL-The_Time!
  6. Coffee Mug with Handle – Heading out? Grab this Coffee mug with handles to keep your hot drinks warm as you are out.
  7. Fractionated Coconut Oil – I love having Fractionated Coconut Oil to mix my DIY skin care products during the harsh cool weathers we do (especially when we were back in Chicago).
  8. Epsom Salts – I use Epsom Salts for face scrubs. See the recipe for my Pumpkin Spice Face Scrub here.

As mentioned above, there are so many other mommy care that I love using in the Fall but I wanted to highlight some of the staples. Taking a good vitamin, using Essential Oils for specific purposes,  having a good jacket, etc. are all part of taking care of yourself during the Fall.  I hope my few picks have helped in some ways as you too figure out what keeps you (personally, not your house) cozy, warm and helps you take care of yourself during these cooler months.

15 Best Fall Decor Ideas for Your Home

Add a touch of Fall to your home with these top 15 best fall decor ideas for your home! This post contains affiliate links for your convenience.

Best Fall Decor - athomewithzan

Decorating for Fall

I used to love decorating for Fall. I really did. But to be honest, I don’t have much Fall decor this year and I don’t plan to buy much. Maybe it’s because of everything going on. Even my Fall decor bin looks rather scant (I’m talking the regular sized Sterilite plastic storage bins, not the large ones). I’m OK with it.

When we moved across country last, year, I got rid of some of my Fall decorating items and thought it would be easier to re-buy. But then I realized that re-buying the same items isn’t always easy – sometimes you can’t find the exact and can’t find something you love better at a reasonable cost. So I picked up a few items last Fall but they just don’t have the same feel as my previous Fall decor.

Minimal Fall Decor

In any event, my Fall bin this year didn’t have much to call “Fall decor”. The few items were faux pumpkins, a garland, two wreaths that took up most of the space and a couple other items. In the Spring, I had decluttered any little extra leaves and what-not’s that seemed random. A huge part of me was thrilled and relieved when I saw the bin – NO big Fall bins to drag out tell myself that I HAVE to use all the decor there-in. I guess I’d forgotten how little stuff was in there. I had to look through other bins to make sure there were nothing else some place else. Nothing Else!

Fall Decor That Provides Warmth, Texture & Coziness

That lead me to think of what makes our home the most cozy, warm and provide texture during the Fall. These items don’t usually come in the form of a bunch of junk or nick-nacks. You don’t need to go overboard and buy all of these  listed if you don’t have them on hand. Just a touch of something in a room or two will do!! They are more practical and you may already have most of them in your home.

Thought I’d rather share these with you than the typical bunch of added nick-nacks all over the place. While those may be fun to look at, I’m just not feeling it this time. I simply switched out a few Spring colored items and replaced them with something more warming and Fall-ish this year but the items from the list below stuff is what will really make your home like Fall.

15 Best Fall Decor Ideas for Your Home

1.A Fall WreathAdding a Fall wreath to your home is an easy way to welcome Fall. Places like the front door, the mantle, over the kitchen window, or another wreath hanging, etc. are great places to hang a decorative Fall wreath.

2. Fall Flowers (faux foliage)Fall foliage may be one of the easiest Fall decor ever. Place some Fall colored flowers in any room of your home or corner of your home. You can use fake of real. Just grab the real from a tree at your home or some other place where you are allowed to grab a branch or two. Place them in vases around your home. There are so many different shades to choose from, too.

3. Blankets and Throws – Place one or two on your couches, chairs, bed to add some coziness, color and to use for warming.

4. Pillows Covers – I love switching out my throw pillow covers in the Fall. I once invested in a few plain white throw pillow inserts. I simply switch the pillow covers to whatever color I want as the season changes. If you have some covers on hand or just the pillow itself in whatever shade of color add some to your couches, a basket, or some other pillow area. BTW: Your blankets, throws and throw pillows don’t have to be confined to the inside of your home. Take some to your porch (if you have one) or use around your fire pit for a S’mores night or something like that.

5. Rugs – I like to bring out all the rugs during the Fall – small rug, big rug, medium rugs! Rugs will add instant texture, warmth and decor to your home. Got cold floors? Use a rug. Got a chair that could use a little beatifying? Use a small throw rug. Got a dining room that needs something under your feet while you eat dinner? Add a medium rug to your space. You’ll enjoy the warmth as well as the texture and decor they bring to your home.

6. Candles – OK, so while I use essential oils and don’t burn candles like I used to, I love the decorating aspect of candles. I just love how cozy they make a space look especially during the Fall and winter. Seeing all the colors and names on the candles on the market truly makes me want to buy a few. But I try to hold back, especially if they are not 100% soy. It’s a struggle. So I use tall Taper candles on the mantle but don’t light them. And . . . . I have bought battery operated candles just for that glow:)

Fall Fireplace and Mantle

7. Lanterns – Lanterns could be used both inside and outside on the porch. I love the ones with battery operated candles inside. But you can add your own candles to empty lanterns or fill them with tiny pumpkins for an added tough of Fall.

8. Wood – Whether you own a fireplace or not, having some firewood somewhere in your home during the fall will add some texture to your space. Some areas you may consider – the living room, family room, entryway, porch, library if you have one in your home, etc. Use a wire rack, basket, tin can or other firewood holder to hold the wood.

Wooden trays, bowls or bread bowls will also bring in some texture. They look great on the dining table or kitchen counter with Harvest type veggies or fruit.

9. Pumpkins – Just a pumpkin or two would totally bring on the Fall in your home. Pumpkins both fake or real will do. You don’t need to go overboard; at least it’s what I try to tell myself.

10. Copper & Bronze Items – Copper pots, pans, measuring cups and spoons, drinking mugs, etc., are all great for adding some warmth to your home during the Fall. Display some next to your stove-top or so for that added touch.

11. A Kitchen Towel or Apron – Pick any one of these to display in your kitchen.

12. Cloth/Fabric Napkins – Simply placing some Fall-colored fabric napkins on your dining table can make it look like Fall. I bought a new set from Home Goods that I’m excited to try.

13. A Garland – Garlands are so whimsy. You can literally run one anywhere in your home for added whimsy to your home, especially if you have smaller children. Our kids love garlands and I guess I love them too. We tend to have one on-hand for the seasons.

14. Mums – Well, mums make every porch pretty, don’t they? I’ve never grown them but I tend to buy some during the Fall. I love decorating my porch with mums and pumpkins during the Fall. Catch last year’s Fall porch here. I don’t plan to do anything much or that different. In fact, I’m think of less pumpkins and I’m not quite sure yet about the mums.

15. Lights – Nothing says Fall like twinkle lights, right? I love the glow of the lights amongst the Fall colors, especially in the evenings. Outdoor string lights are just cool. I don’t have some because I don’t we have the outlets. But I did pit up some twinkle lights in the kitchen late last Fall and I think I want to add some again or somewhere else in the house (earlier).

Face Masks Holder & Storage Ideas for Kids & Adults

Keep your families face masks clean and ready to go with these creative Face Masks Holder & Storage Ideas. This post contains affiliate links.

Face Mask Holders Ideas - Mask Holder for Kids - athomewithzan.com

Why a Face Mask Holder?

Do you find yourself always looking for your face masks and not having one particular place to keep them? I’ve been finding ideas to help

  • keep our clean masks “clean” & easy to find once they are washed.
  • Make it easy for the family and especially for the kids to get to (they need to be able to find them easily when heading out).
  • If your kids are in school, you’ll probably want to make it super easy to find and keep their masks safe and clean.

Find these ways to store our face masks have proven to be a help for us. I’m sharing some of these ideas that’s been helping us and I do hope they’ll help you too.

Please Note: I’m not here to debate whether or not one should wear a face mask. But if you do wear them, consider these few storage and holder ideas below.

Face Masks Holder & Storage Ideas

1. A Small Basket – Have a special “face-mask” basket somewhere close to the entryway/mudroom where the family (and especially the kids) go in and out. It maybe even more helpful to have two baskets, one for putting dirty masks and another for clean ones.

2. Pouches & Pencil Cases– This is a great idea for kids heading out to school. A simple pouch or pencil case can be used to keep their masks in their backpacks. If they need to change out their masks, they can do so easily. A mom, parent or other person could simply use a pouch (purse) that’s wide enough to fit into their other tote or purse.

I love the designs of them all and also the fluffy-ness of some of them.

Here’s another way I use the pouches in the entryway.

Face Mask Holders Ideas - Mask Holder for Kids - athomewithzan.com

Our kids have these baskets for their summer gear (sunglasses, small purses, hand sanitizers, etc.) which changes into small winter gear (gloves, mittens, hats, etc.) during the cooler months. I haven’t yet put their pouches in their bins but that’s another idea. I think once I get the entryway going, I’ll probably put some pouches in their baskets. So far, they’re kept them in their backpacks (they are homeschooled but have these new backpacks for if we head out to a field trip or so). I placed one pouch in the basket to show you how you could store them.

3. Ziploc Bags – A Ziploc is ideal for carrying masks in your purse or bag. If you feel you don’t need anything fancy, that will definitely do. In fact, I use Ziploc bags for carrying masks all the time. I use tiny sandwich ones inside my purse and inside the kids bags. I also keep a set of scarves in a larger Ziploc bag.

Shop Ziploc bags and Sterilite bins by clicking the next following images

4. Sterilite Bin (For the car) – Keep a small storage bin in your car with extra face masks for everyone. If you are heading out, and forget to grab masks from home, then you’ll have some to use that’s stored in the car.

5. A Tote or Bag – A tote or just a bag to dump everything in works well too. I’ve been keeping this in the entryway until I could get things organized. We’ve been moving items around for better jacket and shoe storage plus overall functionality, especially as the weather is getting cooler. Therefore, this very wrinkly tote bag has been working well util I move them to a basket of some sort (like the first idea).

Optional: Dresser Drawers – You could also store the masks in your clothing drawers. In fact, that’s what I did first when everything first began. I stored everyone mask(s) in one of my top drawers. But then I found it rather hectic to go back and forth up the stairs if we forgot to grab them from upstairs before we needed to head out the door.

If you use face masks, have you looked into places to store them yet? What are some other ideas you have?

Essential Oil Roller & Diffuser Blends for Back to School

Help your little ones and yourself ease back into the school year with these Essential Oils roller and diffuser blends. This post contains affiliate links for your convenience.

Back-to-School-Essenential-Oil-Rollers-Diffuser-Recipes-How-to-Calm-Back-to-School-Jitters-athomewithzan

Back to School Preparation is a Lot.

Back-to-School after the summer months is a big event for kids as well as for parents! It can bring on a lot of emotions (excitement, joy, happiness, anxiousness, etc). New grades, sometimes new school and first time in school, new teachers, new and old friends, new expectations, new routines, getting up early, and the list goes on. . . . Just writing that out got me a little emotional. I guess it just “hit” me now – That’s a lot for kids. Not to mention the new added rules for this year.

As parents, that means getting all their back-to-school supplies ready and planning for the school year if they are going to be homeschooled. If they are heading out to school, who will drive them? Are you, your spouse, the school bus, or are you car-pulling? There’s much to think about and put together for a new school year.

Back to School Anxiety!

I for one can tell you it brings on much anxiety, especially as I’m into homeschooling. Trying to balance the things of the house along with homeschooling is no easy feat. I know it’s only by God’s daily grace that I can do what I do.

But as the new school year rolls in, I wanted to share some Essential Oil blends for your diffuser and rollers to help keep you and the little ones calm and focused.

Please Note: I have been using Essential Oils for a while now and I’m certainly not here to tell you whether or not you should. But I do believe they have some benefits when applied topically (on the skin). My list of recommendation is from my personal experiences.

Back-to-School-Essenential-Oil-Rollers-Diffuser-Recipes-How-to-Calm-Back-to-School-Jitters-athomewithzan

Why I Use Essential Oils

Because I grew up in a home that was pretty much naturally made – from the food we ate to what we used for wellness and what we used around the house. My mom used things like

  • camphor oils when we had colds
  • a sweating method for my brother’s sinuses
  • lime peel tea for tummy aches, etc.

So I’m not just using oils because there’s a trend or want to convince someone that oils are the best thing out there on the market. I like to use a variety of natural products (oils are just one of them) because I have the background and experience of what to look for (hard to come by sometimes, though).

Now that we’ve clarified some things, if you use oils or plan to try them, here are some ideas for back-to-school days. We already know that school looks a lot different this year. I hope these ideas would help you and your little ones stay calm and focused as you begin the new school season.

Essential Oil Roller Blends to Calm Anxiousness

One of the ways to make Essential Oils easier to use is by adding them to small bottles called roller bottles. Pure Essential Oils are strong and most need to be diluted with another oil called a carrier oil before using. By adding the mix of oils to roller bottles, it will be easy to grab and use at the ready. You’ll also save your oils by premixing them in the rollers. So instead of every time you need to use an oil you have to go add a drop or two to and mix, it will be already mixed up. My favorite carrier oils are Fractionated Coconut Oil & Jojoba Oil (good for skin). So without further ado, I want to share some roller bottle oil blends to for this school year.

For Parents

  • Lavender – 5 to 6 drops

  • Anxiety Ease – 5 to 6 drops
  • Anxiety Ease + Lavender – 4 drops Anxiety Ease, 2 drops Lavender

  • Joy + Frankincense – 4 drops Joy, 3 drops Frankincense

Back-to-School-Essenential-Oil-Rollers-Diffuser-Recipes-How-to-Calm-Back-to-School-Jitters-athomewithzan

For wellness – Rub on your kids’ necks, chests, behind their ears & under their feet before heading out and after returning home (after a warm bath).

  • Fighting Five – 6 to 8 drops
  • Eucalyptus – 6 t0 8 drops

  • 3 Sniffle Ease + 2 Eucalyptus

Essential Oil Diffuser Blends to Help With Focusing

Fill your diffuserr with the recommended amount of water (I have this one – purchase here). Add the following Essential Oil blends below to the diffuser. Turn your diffuser on and enjoy the healthy aroma through your room while school is in session or just anytime you need to use one of these blends.

Back-to-School-Essenential-Oil-Rollers-Diffuser-Recipes-How-to-Calm-Back-to-School-Jitters-athomewithzan

For Parents & Kids

  • To Focus – 4-5 drops Study Buddy (I’ve seen GeneYus by Young Living but haven’t tried it)
  • For Clarity – 4 drops Peppermint + 2 drops Lavender
  • Envision – 4 drops Envision + 2 drops Lime
  • Energize/Rise & Shine – 2 drops Lemon + 2 drops Grapefruit + 2 drops Orange + 1 drop lime

Hopefully, if you are newly starting out with essential oils, these would give you some ideas as to how you can use these oils for you and the little ones (for the whole family). Although, this post is back-to-school related, these blends are not just good for school mornings but anytime you feel the need to use one of them.
