Why Make Apple Pie Bites

Our kids are loving Crescent Rolls lately. I have been buying crescent rolls for easy breakfasts and snacks. So I decided to make some Apple Pie Bites (or Apple Pie Cups) this Fall using Crescent Rolls. These rolls are easy to make and easy to eat. I love that Apple Pie Bites are mini, easy to store and require no cutting for serving. We love making apple pies during the Fall – it’s always so fun. But sometimes finding an easier way to make a favorite recipe is great too. Nothing will replace a good ole apple pie though, but these minis are worth the try.

We Enjoyed These Apple Pie Bites

These turned out so delicious. I even saw my husband heating up some for a to-go breakfast the next morning. He took them to work on his way out. I was sort of surprised that he took them for breakfast but then I thought, well, they are made from Crescent rolls and Apple filling so it’s kind a like a breakfast casserole to some extent.

Fun Hairstyles for Little Girls – Hair Braids for Kids with Extensions

Make your kids look cute with this Fun Hairstyles for Little Girls (Hair Braids for Kids with Extensions) for school this year.

Hair Braids for Kids - Girls Hairstyle - athomewithzan.com

I am enjoying styling our girls hair for school this year. The hairstyles are so fun to create and make the girls look so cute. These styles I did for our 4th and 6th grader for back-to-school. Albeit, I did them the second week of school because we didn’t get around to prepping for the official First Day of school. The kids got so many compliments from their teachers and classmates. Mamma felt “proud” of “her” work:)

Why Braid Your Little Girls Hair?

Braiding our girls hair is so much than just cute hairstyles though. It’s also a way to have less combing to do and to make the hair more manageable. In addition, less combing is always a good idea for the kids right? No one really loves others pulling on their hair. Our girls hair are very thick and doing their hair is such a chore. But it needs to be done. Hair braiding is such a time-saver especially on travel days.

What is the Best Braid for Hair?

Personally, I love box braids and quick corn-rows for the girls. They are just easier on the girls since their hair is just so thick. I love to add extensions to their hair when ever possible. Extensions make their hair look longer and the girls love having them.

Do you Prefer Small Hair Braids or Large Braids?

It doesn’t matter, but it depends on how long you want the hair to last and how much your kids can handle. I never do our kids hair in super small braids because they just can’t handle it. In fact, this is the first time I have done this girl’s hair in such small corn-rows. I usually go big.

Do I Have to Add Extensions to Kids Hair?

No. You don’t extensions to braid your kids hair. It is a choice. For us is mainly a preference depending on the occasion. However, adding a little extension has some benefits:

  • It makes the hair fuller
  • It makes the hair appear longer
  • It may get a little less wrinkled faster
  • It seems to grow the natural hair

I think when the extensions are removed the natural hair appears longer for this reason: it is less combing while the extensions are in so that means less hair strands are coming off while they are in. I think – I’m really not an expert on this, just assuming.

How Long Should You Keep Braids in Your Kids Hair?

I typically keep our kids hair in for a week to 3 weeks depending on the hairstyle. The bigger the braids, the soon it comes off. Our braids are usually boxed braids. I have done some small boxed braids in the past but not too, too small. Just enough to last on our vacations. I haven’t done their hair this small in corn-rows before but this one stayed in about 2 weeks. I guess it could have stayed in longer. But the hair was getting a little frizzled and needed to redo. I did re-do this same style after week 2 to get their school photos (my personal photos, not the schools). I didn’t unto the whole hair, just re-did one braid at a time. After that week, I removed the styles for something new. This time, it was 2 giant braids with extensions just to give her hair a break from the smaller ones. So basically, if you think your child’s hair can last longer, then go for it. If you feel it needs to be removed, washed and redone, then go for it.

For school, I was a bit concerned about leaving their braids in for more than a week. But I met a mom at Walmart and her two girls hair were all braided up. Upon asking her how long she kept the braids in their hair, she mentioned that she usually keeps them in as looooong as possible. That was my conformation that keeping the braids in more than a week is ok.

Can I Wash Hair with Braids and Extensions?

You sure can wash hair with braids and extensions. Note that some frizzling will occur so you may need to re-do a few or a lot of them. I find it more beneficial to remove everything, wash, and redo in a different style.

Hair braids with extensions are so much fun for little girls! I hope this style inspire you (if you’re looking to be inspired) to try a new style. My girls look so cute in their hairstyles and even cuter going to school:)

School Year 2022 – For The Turner Kids

Back to school is upon us. Below you’ll read about what we are doing with our kids schooling this year, 2022.

How are you doing moms? Here’s to hoping you had a good summer with your littles and that your school year is off to a good start. Our summer was a consumed with moving and our school year started out a bit on the rough side. But we thrive by grace and just keep moving forward.

Elementary and Middle School This Year

This school year 2022, the children are off to school. We are here at the Middle School age. Ah, just can’t imagine!! For years, I’ve watched children go to middle school when our kids weren’t there at that stage yet. I clearly remember when our now Middle Schooler was in second grade and our second daughter was in Kindergarten. They both attended one of the local Public schools in our area. At the bus stop, there was a mom who had 3 kids in school at the time. Her two girls who came at the stop were in 5th and the other in 3rd. Her son, was in 6th grade in a different location. The fact that the middle school was separated and she had to figure out two separate schools boggled my mind. I mean it really did. I didn’t understand how it all worked at the time since our kids were much smaller. I also had a little boy who was 3 and not in school. All I wanted to do was have our children in one school and one close enough to get to. I had such anxiety about taking the kids to different school locations. I couldn’t imagine that.

Yet, here we are 4 years later, with the eldest starting Middle school and the other two, one entering 4th grade and our little boy in 1st. And…. she is in a separate school than the other two. Ah, I just can’t handle it; all this growing up and school running around instead of enjoying our slow, playful days at home. Can you hand it mom? The kids just seem to grow up too fast. It really is a true saying. But I guess one’s gotta grow and we just got to keep on keeping on and doing what is best for them, right?

Aren’t You Homeschooling this Year?

We decided to take a step back from homeschooling this year. There are several reasons we had to make a change. The past few years, we enjoyed the comforts of homeschooling but last year was a tough one. Homeschooling didn’t feel the same anymore. It sort of felt like we were just trying to get through the day. I was overwhelmed with so many other family things apart from homeschooling. I wasn’t my best and the kids weren’t enjoying

What exactly is getting through the day if you’re homeschooling? Aren’t you controlling how things are done. I thought you didn’t need to follow a schedule or you just do one small activity and call it homeschool. No? NO! Let me clarify.

There are many theories our there of what homeschooling should look like. It could be play-based, exploring-based, making muddy-puddles and stamping in the rain based, etc. . . . . . It seems like anything but book-based. However, our girls were at the level where playing and exploring all day wasn’t going to work for homeschooling. They needed something solid and they needed to work on the core subjects. They needed to read, write and learn Math concepts that was more than just measuring while we cooked, or counting money while we shopped, and such forms of Math. So if our homeschooling was mainly play-based, then maybe we would not feel like we were just trying to check off a box. Yet because we had to settle down at some point for core learning, things felt a little (I mean a lot) stretched and like we were just trying to get through the day.

And don’t forget, not all States are equal on the homeschooling requirements. Here where we are, we are required to join Groups and Associations and turn in grades at the end of the school year. Did I just hear you say – “well you don’t have to actually do that?”. OK. Maybe so, but what about if for some reason you need to transfer your child from Homeschooling to school out of the home? The school will ask you for their homeschooling records. Just saying. Trust me on that one. So let’s do this right mamas. If you are homeschooling, just try to fulfill your state’s or country’s requirements.

How are the Children Doing in School Now?

The children have had mixed emotions as they go to school – some days they love it and other days, they want to stay home. Overall, they seem fine. I usually speak to them about their day when they come home and ask if they are enjoying school. I get answers like:

  • I’m enjoying school
  • I like school now
  • Sometimes I don’t want to go to school but once I’m there, I start to enjoy it
  • School is too long
  • Does school have to be 6 hours? Why can’t it be one or two hours? (That question is a constant).
  • Can we stay home today?
  • Can you sign me out of school?

How Am I Doing Now that the Kids are in School?

I have mixed emotions also. Some days am ok and other days I long to be in a place where we could homeschool again. I really enjoy the quiet and can now understand other moms sentiments. I can get more done (when I’m motivated). But sometimes I do miss the kids, though.

In any event, changes may not always be what we desire but sometimes they can be just the thing we need both for others and for ourselves.
