Delicious Homemade Chili

I make a mean chili – at least my husband and kids love it. The thing is I don’t really have a one-size fits all chili but each one I make turns out awesome in their own way. OK – so I’ve had a couple that turned out better than others and this one right here is one of them. I’m not sure that I was planning to share this recipe but it came out so good, thought I would share. And it’s a healthy recipe too.

How to Make my Thick Homemade Chili

I used this pot

Ingredients:

  • 1 1b Ground Beef
  • 2 15 oz Cans Read Beans
  • 2 15 oz Cans Black Beans
  • 1 15 oz Can Tomato Sauce
  • 4 Cups Water
  • 2 Tablespoons Chili Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Black Pepper
  • Olive Oil, optional

Directions:

  • Cook Ground Beef in a pot of water. Drain.
  • Add 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil to a soup pot.
  • Add in Onion Powder, stir.
  • Stir in Ground Beef.
  • Rinse Red Beans and pour into pot.
  • Dump in Black Beans.
  • Pour in Tomato Sauce.
  • Add in Spices – Chili Powder, black pepper, and Paprika, optional.
  • Add salt.
  • Fill the tomato can with water, pour that water into the pot.
  • Pour in the rest of the water.
  • Stir and allow to simmer on low about 15 mins until the ingredients come together nicely.
  • Allow chili to sit about 10-15 minutes to thicken up more (the longer it sits, the thicker I find it becomes).

Spoon into bowls. Top with chips, shredded cheese, a dallop of Sour Cream, and a sprinkle of parsley or cilantro (fresh or crushed). I only used cheese here because this was not necessarily a planned recipe share. I didn’t gather toppings together but I’m sure I had Sour Cream in the fridge and chips in the pantry. I was out or Parsley and Cilantro.
