Homemade Apple Pie - Turned out delicious!
For Dough:
- 2 Cups Flour
- 1/2 Stick Butter (8 Tablespoons)
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 Cup Cold (Ice) Water
Add flour and salt to a bowl. Mix. Cut in butter and crumble with hands. Add cold water, half at a time. Mix with a fork. Roll into a dough. Wrap in Seran wrap and refrigerate.
Pie Filling:
- 8-10 Apples, peeled, sliced, washed
- 1/2 Cup White Sugar
-1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice
- 1 Tablespoon Flour
- 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
Mix apple slices, sugars, Cinnamon, lemon juice, & flour. Melt butter in skillet and add apple mixture. Cook about 10 minutes until slightly softened and mixture is sort of syrupy.
Remove dough from oven and separate into two halves. Roll out one 1/2, wide enough to fit and overlap pie dish. Place dough into pie dish. Pour in apple mixture. Roll out other 1/2 of dough into pie dish the sane way. Place over apples. Gently press ends of dough together. Cut out excess. Use your fingers to seal & shape around the dough.
Heat oven to 400 degrees . Mix egg and 1 Tablespoon water. Brush dough with egg wash. Bake 20 minutes. Remove from oven and cover ends of pie with foil. Bake 40 minutes or until pie looks done. Remove from oven to cool before slicing. Slicing the pie too soon will cause it to crumble.
I sometimes like to too my Apple pie slices with Vanilla Icee-cream, Whipped Cream, caramel syrup & Walnuts.
Dried Orange Slices🍊How to Dry Orange Slices for Fall
What you need:
3 Oranges, sliced thinly
Pumpkin Spice
Ground Cinnamon
Line a baking tray (cookie sheet) with Parchment paper. Set aside. Cut oranges thinly. Lay out on tray about 1/2 inch apart. Sprinkle with Pumpkin Spice and Cinnamon. Bake 3-4 hrs at 300 degrees or 4-6 hrs at 200 degrees.
If you have no place to go for that day, you can start early enough to give the oranges time to dry. Check on it at the 1/2 time, if desired, to see how much they’ve already dried out. I did remove the oranges from the oven, flipped them over and allowed them to finish drying out.
This was a little ice-cream social we did at the beginning of the school year. It was supposed to be a summer party that we didn’t get around to. 🍦🍨 And we tried Disney on our new projector because we didn’t decide on a movie by the time we got the projector to work:)
