We always love taking trips to the zoo but now we have one little boy who is overly obsessed with all things animals. He pretty much knows all their names and has a great toy collection of them.
We always love going to the zoo
We always go to the zoo in the city – it’s free and popular and was one of the very first ones in the Chicago area. However, there is another zoo that is very popular especially for moms with smaller children. I’ve been to the Brookfield zoo sometime before my husband and I were married but I was not a fan at the time. It was during the Fall and most of the animals were in hiatus. We didn’t see much and ever since I just have not had the desire to go back to it. My husband kept telling me it is the bigger zoo with more animals and things to do but I wouldn’t believe it (I think it’s because we always visited the free zoo during the warmer times so there are always animals to see). We also have family friends with small children who have yearly membership to the Brookfield Zoo and always telling me about it.
Well this summer we decided to go to Brookfield zoo after all and I was very happy we did. It turns out that it is indeed the bigger zoo with more stuff to do like my husband told me. We bought the yearly membership and already enjoyed extra activities like a dolphin show without paying extra. There are various kinds of animals to see and kid-friendly activities to do (park, splash-pad, maze). We didn’t even get to see all the animals or do all the stuff since we went in the afternoon and it is a pretty large zoo. We did enjoy that zoo much though and “said” little son kept reminding us that we didn’t see all the animals. Even my husband wanted to go back the next day to see the rest of them. I took some photos of the trip – see them below.
Other activities to do, see, and enjoy
As previously mentioned, there are many other activities to enjoy at the zoo other than just looking at the animals (think there is a petting zoo too). Because we went in the afternoon we didn’t get to explore more but below are some of what you can do, see, and enjoy.
Did you visit any kind of zoo with your kids? What unique activities do they offer there for kids and families? Share what you love in the comments.
