Free January Desk Calendar

Stay organized and on task with this simple and clean desk calendar.

Free January 2018 Desk Calendar - At Home With Zan-

Happy New Year to You! Hope you’ve been staying warm. One of the things I love seeing is an organized desk/pretty lady-like work space. I don’t have an office but we do have a tiny corner desk in the kitchen that I tend to work from when we are downstairs. While I love a pretty desk, I also struggle with keeping mine neat an organized. Why? Because it is kind of in an awkward spot close to the entryway (opened space) and is kind of a catch-all space for mail, keys, gadgets, and whatever other paper clutter that accumulates there. But there is something to be said about staying on task (or trying to) with the many things that fill our day and calendars are great in helping us to keep up with them.

Download this free January calendar for your desk, office, table, wall, etc and use it to suit your needs. I also love using Scripture verses as encouragement and for setting the base for things that I do. Not that I’m always the best but it’s where I like to find my strength so I added a verse at the bottom. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” (Genesis 1:1).

Blogging & Tech Fail Plus a Few Photos from our Home During the Holidays

Hi friends, how are you all doing? Are you keeping busy this season? I have not been around the blog much within the past few months. My laptop got some accidental damages a few months ago and my repair person said it will be too expensive to fix it so I might as well get a new one. Although it still worked, it was much of a hassle to get anything done with it. Typing took longer than normal, constantly trying to keep it connected to the internet depending on where I was in the house, and also trying to keep it from falling apart. It finally crashed and stopped working completely, a few weeks ago.

Christmas Living Room - At Home With Zan

I don’t know the last time I had been without a working computer, even pre-blogging. On occasion, when my computer had issues I’d use my husband’s laptop but it’s just not the same as far as having all your stuff saved on your own personal tool. But I have to admit that this technology problem gave me a break from trying to do too much. I had a line of posts including some tutorials, free printable Christmas tags I wanted to share around and just a litttle after Thanksgiving but that’s when it finally crashed. Thankfully, I now have a new working laptop but all tags, photos, and other documents are on that old one. I think I’ll have to take it to the shop to retrieve them off the hard drive but I won’t worry about posting from those photos now.

In any event, I thought I’d let you know that in case you were wondering. Also, while I was thinking about this post, I thought I would share a few quick photos of our home for Christmas. This was not planned at all – in fact, I didn’t do much decorating this year. Along with feeling the need for less, I did not want to stress over having to decorate unfinished rooms or empty rooms. But I do love adding Christmas decorations – just not much this year. We have a few trees around and the glowing lights are always a welcome sight. And then just a couple other touches like here in the entry and very few things in the kitchen. In fact, I decluttered our Christmas decorations before putting any of it up (too many randoms) plus I did not bring in much either. I also did some kitchen organizing because having too much decorations in the kitchen just make it look cluttered.

I wanted to focus on filling up a couple of empty spots such as this corner here in the entry. The table is a great little welcome addition to the front room. I ordered it from Wayfair. It makes me happy that the spot is filled with something useful rather than just spending money filling up the rest of the house with holiday decor.

Changing out some pillow covers brought in the additional color. Those pillows really never stay on the chair anyway. The kids like to play with them. JOY pillow is a DIY.

This tree is full of handmade and picked out ornaments. The kids have been making little ornaments for a while now. We love it – it’s our favorite. It is in our front room by the window. The front room itself is not furnished. It’s become an extended playroom to some extent.

Even my centerpiece on the kitchen island has not really come together and I think I’m just tired of having to move that bowl of fruit to put something else there. So yea, it may not be the prettiest but it sure is healthy:)

And here are a few homemade ideas – Christmas cookie village in jars and gingerbread cookie garland. And yes, the cookies are all real:)

So as you can see, there is really not much going on here but we do love the little we put up. We all have little trees in our rooms (the kids rooms and our room). And the porch because I want it to look presentable. But that’s about it. I have not even done a formal table setting yet. Sometimes we desire less and other times, we get so caught up with decorating we forget the main reason for the season.

It really was not perfectly planned out and decorated but it’s coordinated and as you can tell, my photos were not perfectly taken or edited. Because as I mentioned earlier, a home tour was not a planned post but I thought I’d share with you what we are up to.

Have you decorated much this year? You can see a vast difference in decor here from last year’s tour: Merry and Bright Home Tour. But thank you for understanding why I have not blogged much and hope your holiday is going well.

Free Thanksgiving Meal Planning Printable

Save time and organize your Thanksgiving holiday dinner or brunch with this free meal planning printable.

Free Thanksgiving Meal Planning - Printable - At Home With Zan

It’s no secret that cooking large meals takes planning. With the coming holidays and all the food that end up around the table it’s best to find a system that would help cut down on some stress plus save time in the kitchen. A menu planner along with a grocery list is a great way to help with both. I know that we live in the age of everything list on phones or some other electronical apps but every now and then, I love the easy convenience of good old fashion pen and paper. I do keep lists on my phone too but sometimes while we are out shopping, the kids may be enjoying a show on the phone which means that I cannot have my electronic list. That’s when my paper and pen come in handy – watch items on paper list, add things to cart, use pen to check off. All done.

Usually when I make a menu for bigger meals, I simply jot down what I will make (or mentally jot it down) and then make a list off that. I decided to create this clean and uncluttered holiday meal plan to help me keep things organized. It looks a little more professional (ha) and I even added a spots for everything included in a full-course meal. You too can use it to help you organize your menu and grocery list if needed.

It’s good for brunch or big breakfasts and dinner. Typically, we don’t do big breakfasts on Thanksgiving but you never know if some families do – just use it to your convenience. If you run out of space on one sheet, no worries. Print it twice or a few times and use as many as you’d like. It’s totally free and there are no strings attached. Download it in pdf here: Holiday Meal Plan Printable – Thanksgiving and you can also check out my post on 10 Thanksgiving Dinner Foods to Make-Ahead that I shared a while ago. Find this post here. How to Create a Hot Drink Station

One of the things we love having during the colder season is a little hot drink station. All things are kept in one spot to make it easy for preparing a hot drink on a chilly day. Creating  hot drink station does not require much and neither does it have to be complicated. Gather your favorite drink mixes (coffee, cocoa, cider, etc), creamer, sugar and a coffee brewer, set it on a small corner or table in your kitchen or dining room, add some coffee mugs and you are good to go. If you want to get a bit fancier, you can always add some toppings such as marshmallows, cinnamon sticks, chocolate shavings to the station and keep cold toppings like whipped cream in the refrigerator, of course.

Hot Drink Station - Dining Room - At Home With Zan

Currently, we have a small year-round coffee station in our kitchen (see it here) but I added this ‘larger’ one in the dining room with just a little extra for those cozy days and for when we have larger gatherings with guests. I don’t get the best lighting in here photography wise so I had to eventually tell myself – enough trying to capture the perfect photos.

I had this little console double stand console table that I bought for another purpose but it did not work out too well for the space where I wanted it. I figured it would be great to create that hot drink station. It fits perfectly in this little corner of the dining room. Side Note: You can even catch a bit  of the new curtains – finally something longer and that actually makes a statement.

How to Create a Hot Drink Station

Things needed:

  • Table or cart
  • Coffee maker
  • Drinking Mugs (coffee mugs)
  • Thermal carafe or hot water pitcher for hot water when necessary (maybe even a kettle)
  • Storage jars/Bowls/Labels (optional)
  • Ground coffee or K-cups
  • Tea
  • Drink mixes (packets) – hot cocoa, cider or other seasonal drink mixes
  • Cocoa powder (optional)
  • Powder creamer
  • Sugar (I used raw sugar)
  • Spoons or stirrers
  • Toppings – ground cinnamon, cinnamon sticks, marshmallows, chocolate shavings, etc (extra toppings such as whipped cream or caramel syrup can be kept in the refrigerator and brought out when ready to use)
  • Printable or drink station art (optional)
  • Seasonal decor (optional)

Directions:

  • Separate coffee and drink packets by type in storage jars or bowls. Label them if desired. Set up the coffee station in any order that makes sense to you but drinks can be easily accessible. There is no one specific order of setting up. Although, it might be helpful to start by adding the coffee pot first, coffee and mugs close to the pot, and creamer and sugar nearby. These are what I added to the top.
  • If you use a regular table, add everything at the top of course. But if you use a double stand table or bar cart, simply play around with where things should go. I used a double stand so at the bottom of the table, I added the complementary drinks and extra mugs. I even added some cookies for good looks.
  • Adding a piece of corresponding art or wording will make the drink station even more welcoming. I love using a Chalkboard for this as the lettering can be easily changed out. My lettering is not this perfect by nature – what happened to my good handwriting that I once used to have? I need to take my time to write again:) But anyway, I used a little chalk and letter method to get it to look beautiful. But if you have awesome handwriting (or not) feel free to write it on. The art can be placed on the wall about the table or even on the table.
  • Add extra seasonal decor (fruit, flowers, figuring, etc.) if you’d like to do so. I did not add too much – just a couple little pumpkins as my table was already full. But decorations could even be on the floor next to the table or bar cart. Make it simple, yet pretty and welcoming.

And that is really all it takes to get a hot drink station set up. If you do not have an extra table or bar cart, you could even set this up right on the kitchen counter (assuming you have the space, of course). Just be sure it is in a corner and not in the middle where people have to be in the way of cooking or so.

Hot Drink Station - Cider - Cocoa - At Home With Zan

Note: Where-ever you set up the station, you’ll have to tote water back and forth to make the drinks so keep that in mind when setting it up. If you are having guests over or just a casual family evening, consider starting early by getting the coffee maker brewing and boiling water to add to the thermal for other drinks. The thermal carafe (hot water pitcher) can be kept in the cabinets until ready to use – it does not necessarily have to be kept out at the coffee station at all times. If you don’t have one you can use a kettle instead.

If only you or another family member is making a one cup drink, then that set up is not necessary. Just make whatever drink you want when you prefer. Sounds easy? Because it is and it really help s for making quick yet cozy drinks having everything in one place. There’s no need to walk around trying to figure out everything.Pin - It New

So what do you think? Does you family enjoy all things warm drinks on those Autumn, chilly or wintry days? Do you have a station set up for easy drink making? I’d love to know what you added.

How to Host a Casual Fall Pie Party

There is something about the Fall weather that makes One just want to stay indoors and be cozy all the time.

Pie Party - At Home With Zan -

I do know that this is not always a reality for some given their outdoor responsibilities such as work. But taking time to enjoy your favorite indoor Fall traditions does not have to be complicated. Going overboard is not always necessary. Does your family enjoy pies? Why not take it a step up and bake a few favorite pies and have a fun little party? If they don’t like pies, how about baking other seasonal desserts such as donuts, tarts, cakes, etc. and invite your family to a casual evening dessert party? You may even consider inviting a few friends over to join in on the fun. Make it casual and friendly and un-complicated.

Pie Party - Printable - At Home With Zan

I created a simple pie party for our family. My husband LOVES pies. And he loves them year-round. Many times we’ll make an apple pie or buy a pecan pie or he’ll go to a restaurant and pick up a few slices of pies in various flavors and bring home for us to enjoy. And if we’re having pie, we’re most-likely having coffee, too. Depending on the flavor of pie, we’ll also add a scoop of ice-cream to go along with it. But the little party was well received. I thought, what better way to enjoy a cozy Fall evening than to prepare a bunch of pies (5 total) and have a little family pie social? Not that we can eat them all in one shot. My husband and I and our 6 year old will have some. The other two smaller kids will not yet eat them. But I thought it would be a fun idea.

Note: Don’t laugh at my wooden serving spoons… surprised to find out I didn’t have enough spatulas until the day off:)

We don’t have a lot of mouths to go around so we had a lot of left-overs. But it was great having the options to choose a slice or two from our favorites. I froze the left-overs (apple, pecan, blueberry) and kept the pumpkin and potato pies in the refrigerator. I don’t think these will freeze well without getting mushy.

Pie Party - Five Pies - At Home With Zan-

Host a simple, casual Pie Party for your family or family and friends by following these few tips.

  1. Choose a time that is convenient to both you and your family or guests – Ask if outside guests can come first before you start planning for them rather than planning, then hoping they’ll be available. Keep in mind that there may also be last minute cancellations.
  2. Keep the environment casual: Don’t overcrowd the space with decor. Choose a large enough to accommodate the dessert and serving items. Use a simple centerpiece and let the dessert take the center-stage on the table. See how I made this tin can centerpiece here. It’s been on the table for quite a few weeks now and I have not changed it. It’s simple, low enough, and I love it.
  3. Add a print or welcoming sign – Words that let others know what the party is all about can also ‘speak’ welcome. Whether you chose to have it on the table or the wall or a stand alone on the floor, be sure to include something. I have a sign that reflects the weather and and things that are typical of Fall that I added to the table.
  4. Serve their favorite Pie (or other dessert): I find homemade pies to be the best but there are some store bought freezer ones that taste great, too. Whether you purchase the dessert or make it, be sure to select ones that your guests will love. You already know what pies or dessert your family enjoy most. If you are not quite sure of what friends love best then you can always ask. Don’t forget to include a few different varieties or flavors of what you serve.
  5. Add dessert complements: What can you add to make the dessert complete? If you are serving cakes, what toppings can you add? In this case, I was doing pies so I added complements like whipped cream topping and caramel syrup. I didn’t add ice-cream but we did have a scoop or two with some of the left over pies on the days following.
  6. Don’t forget to add drinks: Nothing better than dessert and warm drinks on chilly nights. Set up a little corner for drinks such as coffee, tea, cocoa, cider, etc. Don’t forget to add water for those who may prefer that option.
  7. Make Clean-up easy: Use disposable plates, cups, and eating utensils. Clean up will be less of a hassle. If you are hosting guests they won’t feel obligated to stay and help wash the dishes when everything’s over. Keep things simple by using disposable and use the time to chat rather than to clean.
  8.  Dispossable Takeout Containers: If you have friends over, it may be helpful to have disposable takeout containers if they want to take a few slices of pie home.

Fall Kitchen - And - Caramel Mocha Recipe - With Dunkin' Donuts Coffee - Land O Lakes Half and Half - At Home With Zan

During the Fall, it’s easy to give attention to cozy blankets, throws and Fall decorations for the living room, family room and bedroom. But what about the kitchen? It needs it’s very own Fall coziness since it’s the place where we spend plenty of time cooking, eating, chatting and making memories. Making the kitchen cozy does not mean going overboard with all kinds of stuff. It’s already the one area in the home that can become so easily cluttered with all the necessary food making gadgets and equipment. I like to stick to a couple simple, practical yet warm and welcoming ways such as making hot drinks for our family to enjoy.

Fall Kitchen - And Caramel Mocha Recipe - With- Dunkin' Donuts Coffee - From At Home With Zan -

A hot drink station is an absolute must in our kitchen during the Fall. The weather here gets very chilly and sometimes, windy at the same time. There is a reason it’s called “the windy city”. We love to warm up with hot drinks on those chilly mornings and evenings. I so enjoy making and drinking various coffee inspired drinks at home; mocha is on the top of the list. One of my husband’s and my favorite Fall traditions is to have a cup of coffee paired along with a slice or two of pie during the Fall evenings. That guy loves pie but he loves it best with coffee. As a stay-at-home mom, quietly enjoying a cup of coffee while the kids play in the early morning is my favorite. Sometimes I make a to-do list while I make sip.

Our little coffee station has always been such a help for easy coffee and coffee drink making. Everything is in one place; you can find my post here on how to create one. We’re keeping our Fall traditions ‘brewing’ by bundling up our coffee and creamer for Fall. This year, I’ve added Dunkin’ Donuts Original Ground Coffee and Dunkin’ Donuts Original Blend K-Cups to our little coffee station. Dunkin’ Donuts is dedicated to providing a consistently smooth and delicious cup of high-quality coffee. The rich aroma throughout the house while it’s brewing is nothing short of wonderful!!!

It’s also available in a variety of formats, blends, and flavors, providing many different ways to experience the positive boost Dunkin’ Donuts coffee provides, whenever and wherever you want it. It makes me happy to hear my husband talk about brewing a cup before he leaves for work in the mornings. Sometimes he drinks it at home and other times, if he is running late, he takes it along with him. The K-Cups really come in handy for when he is hurrying out the door.

Pair Dunkin’ Donuts Original Blend Coffee with Land O Lakes® Buttercream Style Half & Half and you’ll have a really great combo for creating your coffee drinks at home. Creamer is a must whether I’m making a cup of coffee or mocha. Land O Lakes® Buttercream Style Half & Half is extra rich and creamy and is the perfect addition to our morning or evening cup. It’s such a good way to savor the simple goodness of half & half, made with an extra rich blend of real milk and cream. It’s indulgence done right!!  If you are a lover of all things pumpkin spice you’ll definitely want to try the International Delight Pumpkin Pie Spice Creamer. It’s a creamy swirl of seasonal spice flavors inspired by pumpkin pie.

Fall Kitchen - Ways to Add Fall to the Kitchen - Plus Caramel Mocha Recipe - Dunkin' Donuts Coffee - At Home With Zan

Fall Kitchen - And Caramel Mocha - Recipe - With Dunkin' Donuts Coffee - At Home With Zan -

Here are 7 Simple Ways to add a touch of Fall to the Kitchen.

1.Bring in Nature: Nature is one of the easiest ways to add Fall to the kitchen – pinecones, branches, and Fall foliage are some of the top ones. They are easy to collect from the outside. In the past, we’ve collected pinecones and branches from trees around us. We now have a few trees in the backyard and more down our street that are pretty during the Fall. Last year, I clipped off so many branches of beautiful foliage from them. This year, though, the leaves don’t seem to be changing fast enough (I believe the constant changing of the weather has delayed the early change). So instead of pretty natural branches, I’ve used some faux foliage (from our storage) to add to the kitchen. If you have access to real foliage, use them.

2. Seasonal Fruit or Vegetable Display: A bowl of apples, pears, peaches or plums, some real pumpkins here and there, a couple of colorful squashes, etc. are all very good seasonal fruit and vegetables to display around the kitchen.

Fall Decor: A cute little dish towel, seasonal oven mittens, colorful bowls, and other decorative items can be used to add touches of Fall to the kitchen.

4. Wooden tools and Copper accents: Copper is a very warm and earth-toned color. It goes well with any color combination. It’s not necessary to go out and buy a bunch of copper accents if your kitchen decor has nothing to do with copper (takes discipline). However, I find that a few copper gadgets add a warm feel to the kitchen. Wooden tools and such as cutting boards, wooden spoons, salad bowls, etc. are all great for warming up the kitchen.

5. Baked Goods: Is there anything better than the smell of baked goods throughout a kitchen? It’s a good way to bring some coziness to the kitchen while creating an inviting atmosphere for family and friends to enjoy delicious Fall goodies.

6. Lighted Candles: The warm glow of a beautifully lighted candle on a chilly Fall day is just something beautiful. Choose a favorite Autumn scented candle and place it in an appropriate spot. Enjoy the warm glow as you go about prepping and cooking food. I also love to light a candle when the kitchen is all cleaned up before prepping for another meal.

7. Create a hot drink station

I hope you create coziness in your own kitchen by adding a hot drink station and take advantage of saving on your coffee products from Meijers by clicking here.

Easy Photo Frame Decor for Kids Room

I’ve held up on posting about the girl’s room that I was decorating and organizing back in the Spring. That’s not to say that there was no progress made. In fact, we’ve worked on it during the Spring into the summer and made a few little DIYs to add to it. This photo frame decor is one of those DIYs. It’s made from an old 5 x 7 photo frame. All the little hooks at the back of the frame had fallen out so there was nothing to hold the mirror. I thought maybe I could create something small for the girls room using the frame along with some fabric buttons they had for crafting.

Photo Frame Kids Room Deccor - At Home With Zan-

I do believe that updating your kids room(s) does not have to be expensive. There are just so many cute things you can make with the kids to add to their rooms. Just think about the many crafts you or their teacher(s) have done with them that they want to display somewhere in the room. Isn’t it amazing how they get fascinated from simple crafts? Now I do admit that we don’t have much DIYs because sometimes it’s easier to buy rather than having to make. But we made this button frame and a couple other items for their room that we think are too cute.

Step 1: First, I gave it a few coats of white paint. The girls room is in pink; I wanted to add a few pops of white here and there.

Step 2: When the frame was dried I hot glued a few fabric buttons we had on hand. All done! It was super easy to make and the girls love it.

It’s not anywhere specific yet. It’s just sitting on a table top. I thought it would look great on a gallery wall of some sort.

Rodan + Fields Skincare – New Facial Skincare

Hi friends! Let’s talk about beauty and skincare!!! Do you struggle with facial concerns such as fine lines, dark spots, signs of aging, etc? As a teen, I’ve paid close attention to my face; any little thing that seemed out of the way, had to go! I’ve tried both the store bought and the all-natural – much to the amazement of my older brother!! I don’t think my face was out of control – it probably was more of a ‘teenage self-conscious’ action more than anything else.

Fast forward to becoming an adult and a mom with kids where every attention seems to be related to taking care of home and family. It seemed as though time to take care of ‘self’ a ‘thing’ of the past. I started making time for my needs and even posted a few ideas about taking time to develop self in these style and beauty posts. Today’s post definitely falls under the beauty category. Hey, a girl’s got to be beautiful right? Right!

Rodan +Fields Featured

When I started noticing some darker spots (than my normal dark skin color) on my face, fine lines on my forehead and some pores, I wanted to find a good product to help reduce these unwanted appearances. I had no desire for any product that was harsh and produced fast unrealistic results and products that made my face look blotchy. Honestly, I didn’t just want to pick up something from off the shelf in any store just because it had something to do with the name of facial care on it. I wanted to do my research and find the best! Just around the time that I was beginning my search, my husband’s co-worker’s wife, Kim, introduced me to a new product called Rodan +Fields. Have you heard of it? Kim is a pharmacist – my husband always talks about how smart both she and her husband are so you know, I trusted in her recommendation:) Thank you to Kim for letting me try it out.

Rodan + Fields is the number one skin care line in the United States. It was developed by two dermatologists, Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields, hence the term, Rodan + Fields. They’ve created their products as closest to dermatologist-inspired as possible so everyone can have great healthy looking skin tone. The philosophy behind the development is to help “approaching the whole face by addressing skincare concerns” therefore creating a product line that has the right ingredients, in the right formulations, applied in the right order. Each single product works in collaboration with the other for maximum results. At one point, my husband had mentioned to me that maybe I should visit a dermatologist for recommendations as to great skin products. I didn’t think it was necessary because I don’t get bad breakouts but I do have what I mentioned above. I haven’t gone to a dermatologist but now I have the convenience of dermatologists created skincare products right in my own home. How awesome is that?!

Rodan + Fields is not a ‘one size’ fits all skincare line that you use in hopes that it will do something great to your face. Rather, it’s customized to suit the needs of your skin. You choose a Regimen based upon the specific problems you want to address: REDEFINE, REVERSE, UNBLEMISH, or SOOTHE. I’m using the REDEFINE Regimen kit (as shown here in the photos) to address fine lines (on forehead), pores and some dark spots. Here is a summary of what each of the products in this kit does:

REDEFINE Daily Cleansing Mask: Cleansing Mask made from Kaolin Clay (soft white clay derived from decomposition of other clays). This mask gently smooths the skin and draws out impurities from the face without the loss of essential facial moisture.

Rodan & Fields - Redefine - Daily Cleansing Mask - At Home With Zan

Redefined Pore Minimizing Toner: It’s a clear liquid that contains pore-clarifying ingredients that help to exfoliate the skin and minimize the appearance of large pores. It’s gentle and alcohol-free.

REDEFINE Triple Defense Treatment: A moisturizing treatment containing spectrum SPF 30 protection and other active ingredients to help reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Rodan & Fields - Redefine - Triple Defense Treatment - At Home With Zan

REDEFINE Overnight Restoration Cream: Ultra-hydrating cream that replenishes the skin even while sleeping and makes it look less-lined. It contains antioxidants A, C and E that helps replenish vital skin nutrients, reduces wrinkles, keeps the skin moisturized and makes the skin firmer.

Rodan & Fields - Redefine - Overnight Restorative Cream - At Home With Zan

This regimen is applied twice daily, morning and evening. As you’ve seen above, there is an am cream and a pm cream. The mask and toner are applied both times but the am and pm creams alternate.

I also have an Active Hydration Serum facial enhancement in addition to the Redefine Regimen. It fights dryness and raises the hydration of your skin by 200% after just one use and maintains it for up to 8 hours. Thus, making the skin look younger. This is actually the one I first started using then quickly realized I needed a whole system to address my above mentioned concerns. I do however, sometimes apply it along with the REDEFINE Regimen.

See all these dark spots on the side of my face? As I mentioned above, the Regimen I have is mainly to address fine lines and pores but it’s also working on these dark spots, too. If you’re wondering why I didn’t choose the Regimen specifically for dark spots, it’s because that one treats some other problems which were not visible to me. I narrowed it down to the one I have now knowing it most-likely would address dark spots too based upon the description.

Photo within a few days of use: After I started using it, my face broke out with pimples – more than I had. At this point, I was unsure of these products but then wondered if it was just clearing out the impurities (see side profile in this next photo). The dark spots were already there but the pimples were something new. In any event, I kept on applying the Regimen and the pimples started to go away.

Here are the results from using the Redefine Regimen (progress photo below): I’ve been using it for just a little over a month so I don’t expect to see a drastic change yet, as these products take their time to work. But I’ve noticed my face clearing up some. The fine lines and pores have gotten less visible and even the dark spots are fading away. Overall, my face appears to be smoother and brighter. If you look at my forehead closely (right), you can still see the appearance of tiny lines but it’s not as visible as I thought it was before. I think with some consistency things will clear up further. I love how the products work together to produce the overall results and how smooth it feels on my face. It goes on well, has a very light feel to it, & does not have a strong smell. It’s funny – sometimes I just want to keep on applying them just to feel that smoothness.

NB: If you’re wondering why my overall skin looks much clearer in one photo over the other – Rodan + Fields did not do that. After all, the regimen is not for the entire body. Camera plus lighting plus time of day plus summer heat, etc… made one photo considerably darker than the other:)

Fall Front Porch

Soooooo, I was not planning to do a Fall front porch post. I shared the mantel and was satisfied with that because I did not decorate the house fully. But I do like to spice up the porch a bit and make it welcoming. So I added a few things to it. As I was looking through some photos I recently took of the porch, I realized that I had enough photos to share it here on the blog. This was totally unplanned. We tend to get a ton of spider webs on the porch. I had cleaned out just before decorating. Then we had an abundance of rain which brought on extra wind and dust and of course, left some parts of the porch wet. Once it dried, I took some quick photos and then it rained all week long. I did not bother about cleaning it out again. I figured rain, dust, spiders. . .  a porch will just be a porch:) You can find the summer version here and last year’s Fall version here.

For this year, I just wanted to add two little faux plants and door wreath (nothing worthy of a blog’s post, per-se). I thought if I got faux plants then I would not have to deal with taking care of them. But once I got into the store I changed my mind on the faux idea. They just did not seem right for the front porch. I decided to choose real plants and ones that were not in full bloom yet. That way they would probably last longer if taken care of in the proper way. One of the store workers mentioned that the fully blooming Mums will most likely go brown and wither away quickly.

So I bought the not so pretty blooming Mums and put back the fully blooming ones that I’d first picked up which the kids loved (the kids were with me). We took them home and they instantly changed the look of the porch along with the wreath which I ended up making myself. The tutorial could be found here. But riight after that, we went on a 5 day trip and the mums were left to themselves. I thought for sure they would wither somewhat. Instead, they looked normal when we returned.

And then I thought a few pumpkins would enhance the porch even more. Walmart had some Cinderella  style ones in a couple different shades. I added some to my cart:)

I admit that at first, I didn’t want to add pumpkins. Here is the main reason why: A few years ago, I decorated our porch with pumpkins, hay, and scare-crow and all. I was so excited to see how it turned out! Well, I guess the animals were even more excited than I was. I was surprised to see that the pumpkins had been bitten into by some unknown creature. Since that time, I’ve been skeptical. But then I thought, “surely there must be some kind of animal spray out there to keep these creatures away from the pumpkins”. I’ve inquired about that in stores since that time but never really pursued it. This time around, I decided that if I was going to have pumpkins then I must find a spray to rid the creatures. And we did. My husband got a spray from Mejers called “Critter Ridder” and I’ve sprayed the pumpkins and around the surrounding lawn to hopefully keep the animals from eating the pumpkins. So far, they have not touched them and it’s been over a week already. Also, it has been raining here all week so I’ve had to respray a few times since the rain may have washed away the already applied spray.

I’ve even added a couple pumpkins to the back steps and spray them regularly too. I’m sure the neighbours probably think I’m nuts or something – putting pumpkins then going through the hassle to spray them all the time. Whyyyyyyyy the extra work????????! Don’t know but the pumpkins look good. Be careful though because the pumpkins could change color a bit (white-ish) if too much is applied. In fact, the solution is to spray around the lawn not on the pumpkins or on the concrete, driveway, or anything related. So with all that said, here is the porch decorated for Fall.

I have two lanterns I picked up from Target and put them on the table. I had no idea what to add to the table since the front was already so colorful. And as I mentioned earlier, this was an unplanned post and I think I’m just going to leave the lanterns on the table and add nothing else to them.

Also, I did end up getting some chair leg protectors to cover the chairs and tables so they would not rust and mark the floors. I talked about that here.

Overall, I think it looks pretty good. I’m not too worried about the dust brought on by wind and rain and the never-ending spider webs that tend to take over the porch.

Tin Can Fall Centerpiece

Do you love creative ideas on the cheap? I usually have more ideas in my head than I could actually create. Meaning that sometimes, I’d rather just go buy things and not have to deal with finding a moment and place to create them and then have to save them if it is something seasonal. It would be easier to do things like this if we were owning. But I do sometimes make things when the desire sparks and this tin can centerpiece is among them. It is a supa dupa simple idea and makes for a lovely Autumn inspired centerpiece.

Tin Can - Feature

My first intent was to leave the tin cans as is and wrap them in burlap. Then I thought it would be fun to paint them. By the time I was done painting them, I figured I would use them without the burlap wrap. The color of the cans alone brings out that Autumn/Fall look and I did not want to hide it.

I had on hand 3 or 4 cans of spray paint in similar gold and bronze color hue. During the Spring, I wanted to spray paint some items in a shade of gold and ended up buying all these gold and bronze shades to see which one would work best. And now I can use them for various projects like on these tin cans. I also have some rose gold liquid paint that’s similar to bronze which truly is great for using during the Fall, if need be.

Items needed:

  • Empty food tin cans
  • Bronze multi-purpose spray paint
  • Scrap paper
  • Paint sealer for craft paints

What to do:

  • Wash and clean empty tin cans
  • Remove labeling and paper glue residue
  • Clean thoroughly and let dry
  • Place cans upside down on scrap paper or painters plastic covering
  • Apply first coat of paint and let it dry. Apply one to two more coats with drying time between coats. If desired, apply acrylic craft spray sealer. Let cans dry fully.

  • Add fresh or faux flowers to create a centerpiece
  • For fresh flowers: Fill cans with water, then add flowers.
  • For faux flowers: Add a filler such as popcorn kernels, beans, dried peas (lentils, split peas, etc), then add flowers. These will keep the flowers in place in the can.

I picked up these faux flowers from Michaels craft store to add to the cans. I wanted to add real flowers but did not find the colors at the store I went to. But I thought that having some faux ones on hand will be great for anytime.

These could be used to create a table top centerpiece for Fall family meals or for a gathering with friends, other similar activities or just to decorate an area in your home for Fall. It’s a simple idea but it looks great! It will be nice to switch things up with real flowers in these shades according to the occasion.

What do you think of them on the table? It would be nice to have a few larger cans or smaller ones for variety. But overall, I think they look stunning with the flowers added to them. The bronze spray is one of my favorites.

Painting Pumpkins With Kids

I was about to paint some pumpkins and thought I would set out a few so the kids could paint along. So we gathered our pumpkins, paints, brushes, and got to work. It took the kids about 20 minutes to get their creations done. I really love how they turned out because you know, you gotta love the kiddos creations. The ones I created took a bit longer since it involved panting the pumpkins fully and letting them dry between two or three coats. You can find them in this post on gold and white painted pumpkins.

What you need:

  • Pumpkins – We used faux ones from the Dollar Tree
  • Paint colors of choice (The kids used acrylic)
  • Paint brushes (in a few sizes)
  • Scrap paper

What to do:

  • Spread out scrap paper in the dedicated paint corner
  • Set pumpkins on the scrap paper
  • Allow to the kids to paint pumpkins in using their own imaginations
  • Allow pumpkins to dry. They only did one coat of each paint since they used colored paint.

Here are close-ups of what each one did.

The kids couldn’t be happier about their creations and so was I. At first, I kinda wanted them to paint in colors to go with a few decorative ideas in the house. But you know, kids don’t see all this decor stuff like we do, so I let them paint in whatever colors they wanted (well, still sort of sticking to certain Fall colors).

We are displaying these pumpkins as part of the few autumn decor we have around here. There is no point in hiding them – the kids work is much valued as even more special because they made them. So here they are.

DIY Front Door Fall Wreath

I love having a seasonal wreath on the front door and making the porch look pretty in general. This DIY Fall wreath is easy to make and adds a touch of the season to the front door.

-Fall Wreath - Front Door Wreath - At Home With Zan-

A few years ago, I picked up a beautiful Fall wreath in some gorgeous colours from Walmart. Rodents got into the storage bins and we ended up throwing everything away. We didn’t want to deal with it. Last Fall, I added a few steps of faux flowers and a piece of burlap to a grapevine wreath but I was not too impressed with it. It looked boring. This year, I wanted to buy a new one such as the one I had before in all the vibrant colors, yellow, orange, reds, etc. I saw some gorgeous ones but they either had no yellow or too much yellow and just was not adding up to what I had in mind. The idea of the pops of yellow was to make it show up more. As I was walking by the Fall isle at At Home stores, I saw a garland and it immediately hit me that I would go ahead and make one rather than trying to find ‘whatever non-existent’ image I had imagined. I already had a grapevine wreath I purchased a while ago from the same store. Customizing it was super easy. Somehow, I thought the garland had a bit more yellow in it but it still makes a welcoming statement despite. The mini pumpkins were enough to add just a touch of yellow.

Fall Wreath - Front Door Wreath - At Home With Zan

What’s needed to make it:

  • 1 grapevine wreath (desired size)
  • 1 faux Fall leaf garland in preferred colour long enough to cover the span of the wreath (or two to get the length)
  • faux mini pumpkins, pinecones, acorns, squash, etc
  • a hot glue gun
  • work space

DIY Fall Wreath - At Home With Zan -

How to make it:

  • Step 1: Attach one of the ends to one part of the grapevine wreath. This will help to keep it in place while you work.

-DIY Fall Wreath - At Home With Zan -

  • Step 2: Weave the garland around the wreath (front side only). Make sure there are no huge gaps between the garland.
  • Step 3: Once you have put it in a way that you like, hot glue parts of it to keep it in place.

DIY Fall Wreath - Quick & Easy - At Home With Zan -

Check to see if the leaves are all over the place and need to look more cohesive. Use the hot glue to keep leaves down in places where it look like they are ‘out of control’.

-DIY Fall Wreath - Quick & Easy - At Home With Zan -

  • This is how it looks when once I was done with this first three easy steps. There is a few little gaps but fixing the leaves and adding a few other items will cover it all up.

DIY Fall Wreath - Autumn Wreath - Front Door - Quick & Easy - At Home With Zan

  • Step 4: Hot glue the faux fruit and pinecones to the wreath. Use a pattern if you’d like or just randomly put them. I started out with a pattern, but got mixed up along the way. So it ended up being with some in a pattern and others randomly glued. I don’t think they are spaced evenly as I started to do too but it looks great.

Step 5: Once everything is glued on, check to see if there are any more ‘wild’ leaves. Continue using hot glue to keep them in place.

That’s all there is to making this Fall or Autumn wreath – really easy in just a few steps. When it looked like this next photo, I decided it looked good enough for hanging on the door.

I gotta say, I love the vibrant colors and although there is not much yellow, this wreath looks awesome on the front door.

Don’t mind the plants in the posts. I had just brought them home and placed them in the pots for a second when I took the photos. I haven’t had time to transfer them fully since we were out of town for a few days.
