This was my first attempt at something like this. I do box-braids all the time but this type of braids was a stretch. It took about 8 hrs to get it done, in part because having to stop to add curls at two different spots in each braid plus the length of each braid. My boxed braids usually take about 2-3hrs max (maybe a little extra depending) but usually not more than 4 hrs. So this was a lot. I started Saturday afternoon around 4:00pm into night about 10:00 pm and then started again around noon on Sunday for another 3hrs or so. But you know, as much as this took a long time here are some of the benefits:
- We saved about $500. I was quoted $550 with Human hair included. Not sure if that was meant to be all the hair were going to be human hair or just the curls. I only used 1 double pack of curly braids. And we thought they had given us the Human hair because it costed $25 plus tax, totaling around $27. I guess I don’t know why we had to re-buy a different type of curls when we had already bought 2 packs early on for the hair. I think someone mentioned that we needed the Human hair for the curls instead of synthetic curls so the curls would not get all wrinkly and frizzle, the Human hair would be easier to fix). So we went back to get Human curls not realizing that they gave us maybe just a better quality of synthetic. That’s probably what happened. That’s the kind one of the manager’s said was a popular sale for that type of braiding.

- My daughter loves the hair and feels quite confident among High-Schoolers with it (she’s new to High School)
- And I also loved that the hair was done with an extra day before school stared. I was able to do last minute back-to-school stuff and also focus on the other two kids’ hair, which I still did not get done until night time. But it’s ok – they were ready.
So the braids we had originally bought costed around $40. With the extra curls, another $27. So about $47 worth of braids went into her hair because the first two packs of curls we bought, we did not use.
