I’ll describe Halloween in Charleston, SC in one word, CRAZY WILD!
Sometimes I don’t know how I really feel about it all. But I do it because the kids are all about it and our family has not sat down to decide if this is something we should continue decorating for or not. As a mom, sometimes you try to make everyone happy. You want to enjoy the seasonal holidays and events but at times, you wonder if you’re doing the right thing.
Halloween in My Neighborhood in Charleston, SC
Halloween in my neighborhood in Charleston, SC is wild, totally wild! It’s a mad, crowded time around here. Personally, I’ve never seen anything like it this time of year. Some may even say it’s too much.
- Homes are crazily decorated with decorations big and small
- Homes compete for the most decorated, most creative, and most Fall
- On Halloween night, hundreds and hundreds of trick-o-treat-ers with their family and friends come out like it’s some kind of Madigrah or Large Carnival
- Golf carts are decorated with the cutest decor and lights as they come through with family and friends
- Roads blocked and not because anyone has put up a “road block” sign, but because it’s so crowded, no place to drive (note that for if you plan to be over here during Halloween)
Halloween House Competition
Houses compete for the most decorated, the most Creative, and the most Fall. My neighbor, as in the house right in front of ours, goes big. He and his wife usually build their own creations to put in front of their home. They are even featured on the local news channel because of their decor. Yes, that’s how much they put into it. Throughout the month of October (from the time they put out their decor), you can find fans, neighbors, friends, everyone driving or walking around checking out his house and other homes that interests them. I mean, they watch mine too but it’s not usually big. My neighbor already has an established repetition with Halloween decorating. Don’t believe me? Take a look here at this link.
Fall Decorations are Rarely Seen in September
Most folks in my area skips it and goes straight to Halloween. Only a few will decorate for Fall with a wreath, pumpkin and and a couple items on their porches. Others only will put up a wreath.
I have given up on Fall decorating ever since we moved here. My first year in this area, I believe I had a wreath, pumpkin, mums (I forgot about mums), you name it. Then last year, a wreath and two pumpkins. This year, a wreath made it out there. That’s all.
I honestly miss the Mid-West weather when Fall decorating was a thing. Maybe some started Halloween decorating early, but my house definitely was not a stand-alone, stand-out in the midst of all Halloween. There was lots of fall to go around, added to that decor was the natural beauty of the Falling leaves around us. Oh men, I miss those seasonal things you can do back there. With that said, I’m sharing a few photos and videos of Halloween around my neighborhood.
