Create a Homework Caddy for your kids to make it accessible during homework time.
Homework Caddy Essentials
When our kids started going out to school here in SC, I figured a homework station sounded like a great idea, you know some place the kids could sit and do their homework and keep papers, pencils, crayons etc, in one area. Also, this idea was mainly inspired by the fact that my son, second grader was frequently asking for a pencil even though we had a ton. I figured keeping everything in one place would be helpful for him.
That lasted all about 2 days. My son would find a spot on the floor close to the table/entry to the living room. I tried to get him to the table when I saw him on the floor. He may have gone back but ultimately, ended up back on the floor. I couldn’t bring myself to reinforce it, seeing how much more comfortable he was doing his homework on the floor. After all, it’s been a long day sitting at tables and chairs in the classroom, bus riding that got home at 4:00 pm, and the emotional depression that came with the fact of the dreaded extra hr. of homework, Who wants to? Not I! Never mind that the backpack was on the floor too, places wherever. I believe at some point, I had to get him to move his backpack out of the way. But the floor became his homework spot.
