One of my least favorite places to clean in the home is the bathroom. I mean, the tubs to scrub the trash to take out – not my favorites at all. But it has to be done. Our family needs to use clean bathrooms. So over the years of owning homes, I’ve created a bathroom cleaning routine and have learned to clean our bathrooms speedily on weekdays (I save deeper cleaning for the weekends). I call it spot cleaning.
Daily Bathroom Spot Cleaning
Spot cleaning our bathrooms a couple days a week has been such a help with keeping the bathroom tidy. It prevents dirt from building up in the bathroom and keeps the tubs from build up from soap and dirt. Then on the weekend, I clean deeper. I spend some more time cleaning every angle. It may sound like a lot of bathroom cleaning but it really helps. If you learn to clean it speedily a few days, it will eventually seem like nothing. When it comes to scrubbing your tubs it won’t feel like “such a chore” if you spot clean it frequently.
Moms with little kids, I’m going to assume that you know you need to be quick in basically every cleaning task at home. Sometimes the kids would come calling in the middle of a task you don’t want to put on hold. But you have to set it aside to take care of the kids. Clean Your Bathroom in 5 Minutes or Less (help for daily spot cleaning)
Step 1 – Remove any extra items that do not belong on the sink counter or floor in the bathroom (example: put dirty laundry in laundry hamper). 1 minute
Step 2 – Spray shower and shower curtain. If necessary, wipe with a rag (to remove any small amount of dirt). 1 minute
Step 3 – Add some cleaning solution to the toilet bowl and quickly swish it to get rid of any dirt. Flush and rinse toilet brush. Spay the entire toilet with cleaning spray and then wipe it down, start at top of the tank and handles then work your way down to the seats. 1 minute.
Step 4 – Spray and wipe mirrors and bathroom sink and counter. 1 minute
Step 5, Optional – Change out the trash bag and set the trash by the bathroom door to take out when you are done cleaning. 2 minutes.
Optional: If floors or bath rugs look stuffy, remove and shake them, then place them in one corner. Sweep your bathroom. Put back bath mats in their places if you removed them for sweeping.
Now that did not sound like too much right? When you break it down like this you will realize that it doesn’t seem complicated after all. Just a few simple steps and a few days a week will give you a clean bathroom all the time. I mean, of course there are still going to be messes but if you control them, they wouldn’t control you.
