Homemade Apple Sauce
The first time I tried making Apple Sauce at home was when our first daughter was in 1st Grade, she just started 8th. It was our first homeschool year and there was a recipe for Apple Sauce in one of her curriculum (I believe it was Science).
The Apple Sauce turn out delicious! We couldn’t get enough. However, we’ve only made the recipe a couple extra times since the book is stored away and I just don’t think about getting it out. The couple times I did look for it, I couldn’t remember what page the recipe was on, that in itself took a while to find (I don’t remember finding it). A bookmark or something would have been helpful.
In any event, I’ve been making my own version. The kids always enjoy it, my daughter and now my son. Although, it takes a few hours to make and they’re usually so eager for it to be done.
Which Apples Make the Best Homemade Apple Sauce?
That my friend is something I don’t know. But I do know that choosing apples that are firm and somewhat tangy is a good place to start. For this recipe, I used a mix of red and. The sauce turned out a tad sweeter than I wanted it to but it was still fine.
What Makes Apple Sauce Taste Better?
Well, my secret ingredient is Cinnamon. It’s a favorite flavor in my household for many baked goods and some recipes like this Apple Sauce. I used a Tablespoon in this recipe but I think 1 to 2 tsp is also a good amount. This smell of the apples and cinnamon combination in my house through out the day as the sauce cooks is amazing especially, during the Fall.

Slow Cooker
I bought my Slow cooker last Fall to help me cook meals when I was at work. It’s a great appliance to have during the Fall and winter months for soups and other meals. Throw everything in, let it cook all day, while you get other stuff done.
