Box braids These box braids hairstyle is one of my favorite looks on the girls that I did last year.
Box braids is the basic way of braiding hair with extensions. To me, it’s one of the easiest form of braiding I do. And it usually lasts for a few weeks, depending on how small it’s done.
Box Braids for Kids
My girls have very thick hair. Braiding their hair makes for less combing and hair pulling. While I could simply braid their natural hair, I sometimes use extensions to help with added volume, length, and durability.
Most times I would braid their hair after a fresh wash on the weekends, Saturday or Sunday evening. This helped with a new fresh look for the new school week or for church on Sunday.
The girls looked so awesome with these hairstyles
Did a lil Zigzag Pattern at the front of hers.
How I Do Box Braids with Extensions
- First decide on how small the braids will be.
- Separate several pieces of extension to hep things go smoothly as you braid, set them aside.
- Separate the hair into large sections (I usually do two across, horizontally)
- Wrap the portion of hair you’re doing last – keeps it from getting mixed up.
- I then usually will start at the front.
- Beginning at the furthers end of one corner of the head, part hair for the first braid in the size you want.
- Get a portioned out piece of extension.
- Weave in that piece through the hair.
- Add a rubber band, beads or other reinforcement to the end to the braid to keep the hair from loosing, if needed (see steps below for using hot water).
- Part the second piece of hair. Repeat braiding steps.
- Once the front of the head is all done braided, move to the back.
- Starting at the very bottom, part hair across. Portion out a piece to start braiding.
- When the head is all done braiding, check for extra fizziness or loose ends. Use a scissor to trim off wild ends.
Using Hot Water for Loose Ends
- If you were going to reinforce the hair with hot water, do that now by dipping the hair ends in a bowl of hot water (for a curly look, I used to braid my already braided hair into a few jumbo braids, then dip that in hot water. Dry then loose out.
Love this photo – My hair was done too (we were travelling)
