These 12 fun, healthy summer fruit popsicles look so delicious and are a must try!
It’s that time of the year when the kids are getting out of school and ready for all things summer! They are ready to play all day and take in as much fun in the sun as possible! It’s time for us parents to start thinking of all the snacks and drinks to keep our little ones fed and cooled. When I think about summer snacks for kids, popsicles and watermelon are what come to mind! Anyone else? The problem is that many of the popsicles out there are rather sugar-loaded although kids may like them much!
Reasons to Make Homemade Popsicles
We as parents buy popsicles because we don’t have to make them ourselves. Guilty! I don’t like the ice popsicles so if I buy any for myself it’s usually a healthier version such as coconut or fruit. But they are more expensive and some of the flavors are not the kids favorites. So why not encourage our little ones to snack healthier by making our own homemade popsicles? They definitely will taste different than the sugary ice versions on the market and may take getting used to if you’ve never made any.
The kids are always excited to try making popsicles when I suggest it (which is like one or two times in the summer).Their first impression of the taste always seem to take them by surprise (after all they taste more like fruit rather than “popsicles”). But by the second or third taste they tend to start to like them. I cannot say as much as the store bought kind but you as a mom would feel better about what your kids eat.
Try these combinations that I’ve tried before
Use an array of:
- fresh fruits and veggies blended with water and honey for taste
- 100% all-natural, no sugar added fruit juice frozen
- fruit with yogurt, whole milk or coconut milk
Create your own healthy, colorful combinations using your favorite ingredients! The possibilities are endless!! Give it a try and have fun creating something healthy and delicious with your kiddos. They’ll be more likely to eat them if you make them together as a summer activity!
