Our daughter’s 14th Birthday and ideas for a 14 Year Old Birthday. This post contains affiliate links for your convenience.
My first little one is growing up. Actually, they’re all growing up. But it’s just the idea that the kids are no longer little kids anymore. While things feel different at their ages now, it’s a new season that we need to embrace.
For our daughter’s 14th birthday back in November, we went to Carowinds, NC with the family and about a week later, a hangout at a Bowling Alley with friends (and us).
We had decided on no large birthday parties last year. Our daughter loves going on a trip around the Thanksgiving holidays since her birthday is right after Thanksgiving. While she mainly wanted the trip, we as parents thought it may be great to do a little hang out with friends. We didn’t want it to seem like at 14, we were out of ideas. Well, we kinda were but we figured it out.
My husband suggested the Bowling Alley. I was against it. The Bowling Alley? Really? Can’t we think of anything else? But after throwing around other suggestions like the movie theater, we settled on the Bowling Alley. It turned out great – kids seemed to have fun!
For Carowinds, we left after Thanksgiving dinner at my husband’s sister. It made the drive must faster too since her house is 1.5 hrs from the park (it’s 3 hrs from our house) and 1.5 hrs – 2hrs from our house. We didn’t have to drive to her house, then back home, then to Carowinds.
It was colder than expected at that time and location in NC. As soon as we got there, I wanted to head back to the hotel but we powered through and stayed.
It was Winter Fest at Carowinds. Everything was centered around Christmas. Only a few rides were opened. The entire place was lit up, Jingle Bells and Caroling were heard throughout and there was an end of evening Parade.
While all of that was ok, I think kids enjoy the park more when it’s day and more rides are opened.
Here are some ideas to do with your 14 year old daughter or Son for a birthday if they don’t want the type of parties they had when they were younger.
Girls:
- Out to nails, then lunch or ice-cream (the girls would enjoy doing a little shopping too)
- Movie, then ice-cream
- Bowling with a friend or two
Boys:
- Bowling, then lunch or ice-cream (you can do lunch at the Bowling Alley Also)
- Golfing – I actually saw a couple of what seemed to be 11/12 year old boys at Top Golf. One was carrying some cupcakes. I assumed they were celebrating someone that day and came to golf.
Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward (Psalm 127:1).
