Kids summertime and bubbles just go hand-in-hand. You can buy store-bought bubbles. I do. But sometimes I run out of bubbles and the kids would like to blow some. So I make my own.

Below I’m sharing my homemade bubbles recipe to try with your little ones. It’s super easy and you can adjust the amount to your liking.

You’ll need:

What to do:

  • Pour water into the bowl.
  • Add in the soap, food coloring, and white sugar. Stir to mix.
  • Slowly pour in Glycerin and then gently stir. Glycerin helps it to not be so runny.
  • Your bubbles are ready.

Note: If you find that the bubbles are too soapy, add a cup or two more water (or however amount you need to get the right texture). If the bubbles are not bubbly enough, add some more dish soap. We first started with 10 cups of water. Adding two more cups seemed to have made the solution perfect.

Gather up some bubble blowing items to get the party started. You can use items such as regular bubble sticks if your kids have a few at home (I tend to keep a few sticks around even if they are out of bubbles), Mason jar covers, large round circular items with holes they can blow throw, etc.

Our kids had so much fun blowing bubbles in our yard with this homemade bubbles. Bubbles went everywhere – will settle on the grass, will blow as they ran, will take off into the sky, will remain un-popped as they gently poked their fingers through them, etc.

Note: As the kids play, the water may seem soap as the soap rises to the top of the bowl. No worries, you can mix it back in or scoop it out. Have fun playing!
