We love how these Salt Dough Fall Ornaments turned out. These are a knockoff our Christmas Salt Dough Ornaments. The kids had a ton of fun creating them and I couldn’t stop taking photos. So cute!
Salt Dough Fall Ornaments for Kids
This recipe makes a lot of ornaments if you use small cookie cutters or roll them thin (see photos). You can always make less by using larger cutters or rolling them thicker. But if you need more, use smaller cutters or make a double batch by doubling the ingredients.
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Flour
- 1 Cup Salt
- 1/2 Cup Water
- 1 TBSP Cream of Tartar (optional)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Paint, glitter, sequins
Other Needs
- A drinking straw
- Fall-shaped cookie cutters
- Paint, glitter, sequins, etc.
- Yarn, jute string, string or ribbon
Method:
Heat the oven to 200 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper then set the pan aside.
- Mix flour, salt and Cream of Tartar together.
- Pour in water (add food coloring to the water first if you want colored dough).
- If the dough looks soggy, add a little more flour until it’s stiff enough to knead.
- Roll out dough unto a floured surface (you can separate pieces of dough for each kids before rolling them out).
- Let the kids use cookie cutters to make the shapes of ornaments.
- Use a scissors to shape up the dough.
- Using a straw, punch a hole where you’d like to tie a string to hang each ornament.
- Place ornaments on the baking pan and bake about 2 hrs. The playdough ornaments should be very hard.
- Let them cool.
- Have the kids paint and decorate the ornaments as desired (if you didn’t already use food coloring). Make sure that they sprinkle glitter or sequins right away after painting.
- Let the ornaments dry, then attach yarn, string, ribbon or jute string for hanging.
